10 minutes in and we saw a structure, shape and style that we haven't seen for such a long time. Players knew their jobs, and where they needed to be.

Playing out from the back with a clearly planned way of doing it. The players had confidence that it would work, and it did.

Over the moon at that result.

We played the ball out from the back with some intelligence and I think it was clearly following tactical instructions from Emery. However I think we were helped by the fact that their forwards, notably Renaldo, were lethargic in the press which gave us the time to pass around them.

Their fans, who mostly seem to be from Africa on various social media platforms, are ripping into Ten Hag and Ronaldo. It’s a joy to read.

Try not to laugh..

This is amazing

I can't remember a better villa match of the day section in recent memory - we beat man United and the narrative wasn't that they were shit, it was all about our quality. We have a proven winner as a manager (finally), I'm over the moon lads

Absolutely deserved everything we got today, to a man everyone was brilliant, clearly executed the plan….as a fanbase I think we will have to get used to a team that tries to keep the ball a bit more and not get inpatient.

Ramsey taking all the plaudits on motd2, quite rightly as he was excellent but special mention to both centre backs, Konsa was as good as he has been for 18 months & Mings was an absolute beast.

Great to see Bailey back to properly sprinting, looks a proper player & a real threat.

Referee, was poor but failed to give them a penalty so will be off the payroll.

See a lot of their fans blaming fatigue, wrong! Their manager picked such a disrespectful line up, Casemiro + 5 attackers got what it deserved…was prime Gerrard nonsense selection…he picked a captain who walked out on the team a fortnight ago…bunch of arrogant tosspots…jog on!

Same again on Thursday boys!

Konsa storming forward to win a corner on the right wing at 3-1 with 10 mins to go was a real indication today, we fucking mean business now.

The last win was two months before I attended my first game.

You were almost exactly a year ahead of me, then.

Edit: only just realised how stupidly Irish my (admittedly Irish) dad looks there. Like a 'Ra man in court.

Oh yeah, and teams forcing us to attack the Holte in the first half is working a treat!

I think that was our choice. Man U kicked off first half. I don’t think you elect to kick off and choose ends. Maybe it’s a captain EMI thing

It was Brentford's choice in that match.

Most likely. Maybe we remembered the Brentford game and decided to replicate it. Footballers are superstitious sorts.

Would be interesting to see the stats from the first 20 or so minutes, as I reckon that Martinez would have been right up there in terms of number of passes made in that period.

I’ve just got home from work and gone straight into MOTD2  absolutely brilliant, I was convinced we would get a result today. I said in the pre match us against them is the biggest game in football for me so I’ve had a smile on my face all afternoon

Can't tell you passing stats, but I checked the BBC App at about 20 mins, and we had about 50% possession, 4 shots, 2 on target and they had 0 for shots and corners.

Martinez’s juggling of the ball with his head in the first half was a thing of beauty
