A few slips of the pen Dave, but you capture a very strong essence of what we're all feeling right now. Positive and hopeful. Nice one.

The non-stepping stone point is a good one, and one I hadn't really considered before.

No doubt about it, can't argue with any of that.

Completely agree about the O'Neill/Atkinson thing. I haven't been this excited about a Villa managerial appointment since BFR.

Yep, spot on.

I just hope everyone at the club, especially the owners, and Unai, are informed by somebody or other about how impressed we are with the appointment, and how unanimously over the moon we all are to have him as our manager.

The cup of good will and support runneth over.

We don't need to keep pointing out typos, do we?

This appointment feels seismic: I think O'Neill's was exciting but for achievements in the game, Emery eclipses that. I can't think of a bigger name manager at Villa, or one with a better record.

I enjoyed reading that, it reflected the concern about how long the owners would stay with the SG experiment and whether ‘continued improvement’ was a real aim or a PR line, last November. Well, they’ve shown us!

Thanks Dave, and thanks especially to Messrs Edens and Sawiris. Exciting times have returned to the Villa!

The non-stepping stone point is a good one, and one I hadn't really considered before.

Agree with that point as well.  This smacks of someone who has unfinished business in English football and sees Aston Villa as a club who he can fulfil those ambitions with.

He’s only 50 as well, so pretty young in management terms, yet has a wealth of experience behind him.

Exciting times ahead. Good article Dave and it was becoming a concern where on the curve of the project the club was heading. I reckon they had never taken their eye off of it, just had faith in Purslow’s man who again had that faith in Gerrard.

It wasn’t to be and he could have been brilliant, could obviously being the gamble they took. It’s great to be in the hands of an elite and proven manager.

I haven’t been up for a long while, I’ve been very busy having a family. The last time I came was at the start of my journey being a father. That was when Ashley Young was on our bench under MON. After four attempts I do have a child who’s into her football. I’ll be coming up again soon I hope.

The only problem I will have is it will have to be to watch the ladies team as there will be no chance in hell for me to get tickets to see the men play!

The next manager appointment was always going to tell us the direction of the club.  It’s clear we’re on an upward trajectory which is great.

Yeah I started following Villa under BFR and this is probably the only time I have been seriously excited apart from O’Neill

He shows the height of our ambition and we will have had to give him assurances about backing

He inherits a strong squad was potential to improve and hopefully a couple of well though through purchases will strengthen the team and balance out the squad combined with a few coming back from injury

A good piece which sums things up nicely.  Aaron Danks is an interesting one, I really hope he doesn't get thrown out with the dishwater, Sunday's performance showed that he knows how to set up a side to play to their strengths in the correct positions.  They were motivated too, though that wouldn't be hard given what had gone on over the prior eleven months.  There could be a lot more yet of what Aaron Danks can bring to the table.  Again, a nice piece.
