Spot on Dave. I have eaten so much humble pie since Sunday morning, What an exciting time. I was at a meeting when the news came through, mostly Albion fans, a few Wolves and 1 other Villa. It went down like a lead balloon. They aye appy. Is it true his brother Dick is coming with him to manage the Blues?

Fair play NSWE. It's a hell of an appointment.

What a great read Dave.

My pleasure Daz.

Hear hear. Excellent read. And I was with you wavering on them and thinking they might not be what they said. They have to have sold this to Unai, and sold it well.

I was starting to have similar misgivings. I didn't think we'd improved the first team enough in the summer, and the owners were conspicuous by their absence at Villa Park this season. Getting Emery is a huge step to show that they're still bang up for it. Backing him in the next couple of windows is absolutely key though. We're all buzzing after smashing Brentford, but it's still not a top 8 first team in my opinion.

Great read, Dave.   Wow ....what a difference in my mood from Thursday night to Monday evening, when the news was confirmed.

Love the idea that Unai is determined to prove himself in the Premiership (not that he did badly at Arsenal, especially after replacing a legend).

Really impressed with the decisive and ambitious move from the owners. Aupa Villa!

I never understood the feeling on here that our owners were losing interest after just one gamble. Maybe there’s the Lerner years that makes one think there is a limit. Our owners are here for the long haul and it’s the reason SG was binned. That it wasn’t done sooner got me thinking negatively or at least thinking that a longer time would be given to the overall project. They don’t want to change the datelines so they’ve acted. It’s how serious business people do things.

Reading that has stirred my loins - excellently written and really captures where i think most of us were. Broken and disillusioned.

I would imagine his first walk down the touchline (against that rancid filth) will bring the roof off. Beat them scumfuckers in his first home game and i want William to knight the fucker already

I was very much in this camp. Moving us up to the top 8 was never going to be easy with bumps along the way but our owners are have the wherewithal  to deal with that.
Great piece Dave your recent doubts played on my mind but all good again now with this seriously ambitious appointment.

It wasn't the Gerrard appointment for me, it was the relative lack of spending in the summer, especially when the window was open for ages after Carlos was injured.

Great read that. Thanks. The last paragraph is particularly good. The fact that he's been rubbing shoulders with the European elite while we've not qualified for ten years makes it pretty astonishing that the club captured his services. Whoever is responsible for that achievement please take a well earned bow.
