I dont fully understand why you would go to chelsea.  Unless they chuck money we coudlnt offer which seems unlikely - why would you do it.

They'll always be perceived as a bigger club than us. Most of our squad/staff would go there if they had the chance.

I would guess they did chuck money, and a lot of people in all walks of life like to do something new every 3 or 4 years.

Vastly outspent by Ipswich, Fulham and Coventry.  Coventry FFS!!!

Mind you, selling Duran for that money was brilliant business.

Ron Saunders ripped apart a successful team and created something better. At least I am trying to convince myself that that is what happened.
As I've said on another thread, whilst this undeniably true, it should also be served with a healthy dollop of hindsight.  As late as the end of the 79/80 season there was much chuntering about the break-up of the most entertaining Villa team many had watched and the selling of certain players - not helped by Andy Gray scoring the winner in Wolves' League Cup final victory and us also finishing below them in the league.   I remember mates being completely underwhelmed with that summer's purchase of Peter Withe.

Having said that, fast forward to now and I'm of the opinion that Emery will build a better team.  It might not bed-in immediately, but over the course of next season it will be flying.

we surely can't have a summer as bad as last years, and that didn't work out too badly in the end.
