He nearly took the Newcastle job. I suspect he's not too interested in the politics.

Why did he back out there? Stevie G too from memory. Eddie Howes stock was pretty low at the time post Bournemouth's relegation from memory.

I think (though I might be making it up) that he had unfinished business with a European campaign with Villareal.

That and Newcastle broke the story too early to the press, put him off.

Just want to say that IF Villa get past Forest on Thursday it will, in my opinion, be one of his best achievements since he has been here as we are absolutely rock bottom at the moment!

Rock bottom? We've lost 3 games by the odd goal and prior to that were unbeaten in 6.

I get people are pissed off by giving Tottenham 3 points and the attitude towards the game but let's not overblow it all and induce some sort of crisis where there is none.

Agreed. So much depends on McGinn and (to a lesser extent) Onana. 7pm Thursday and it's announced they're in the side, I reckon the crowd gets more confident and the atmosphere probably brings us home.

If neither are, the atmosphere is going to be panicky. Similar to the Palace game at the start of the season when the crowd felt that Emi would be leaving the following day, it just seemed to transmit something nervous to the pitch.

Yeah, 'absolute rock bottom' is a tad strong. It's an annoyingly timed blip.

There's something weird in our style which means that, when it doesn't work, it doesn't just look bad - it barely even looks like football. That first half the other day was astonishingly terrible. You expect a non-league side to do better at Man City in the Cup.

That said - you just never know. We gave PSG the fright of their season last year, and we know we have that in the locker still. We could also pop like a soufflé. And there just doesn't seem to be a lot in between.

I don’t think this is right at all. It’s a common trope amongst all football fans, this “we’re either great or awful, nothing in between” - but the truth is there’s a lot of in between. There have been loads of games this year where we have ground out single goal wins over decent lower or mid-table sides, and very few where we’ve been terrible.

Indeed. This season especially, where fine margins have decided so many games.

Yep it reminds me of The Simpsons play up of “soccer” in terms of what we do on the ball.

My boss said that Sunday was the worst performance he's ever seen. I couldn't really confirm or deny as I turned off at 2-0.

It's always annoying when you have to work on a Sunday, even more so if there's a Villa game on.
