Without Unai this squad would be nowhere near the CL. Big issue for me is how reliant we still are on players that were here before him which means the squad is getting old and stale together.

I used to think this, but there are so many managers who are proving themselves capable of getting their teams - arguably with even less resources to us - near the Champions League spots: . Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford to name a few.

So I do think there are other managers who could be just as successful with our squad. It’s not Unai or bust..

Feels like he needs to relax and let the leash off the players at times. And go for some chaos now and again.

Agreed. Did you see Pereira's pre-match press conference the other day. Totally chilled, laughing away, so happy with his players, got them organised, believing in themselves and wants them to go out and enjoy themselves. Sometimes it can be that easy, not every day but footballers do tend to have a very short attention span.

My concern  is trusting emery with big money. The signings he has made have generally been shit and signing aging players. He is making the same mistake as Gerrard  did

I'm sorry, but he's potentially played a blinder. You could see what he was doing in his selection, his manner and his post-match interview. There are a lot of facets to this, the simple ones being we have Burnley to come and Bournemouth have Man City.

The main one is what it has done to Forest. They are now three points above the drop zone and have to go the Bridge tomorrow. That has to be full effort and they have us on Thursday. What they also have is Newcastle at home on Sunday, which is three games in six days. Where does the Europa League sit in Marinakis' priorities now, with that in mind? Even if he says go for it, they're gonna be tired and under pressure in the league.

Yes, it would've been nice to bury Spurs. Also, is it a risk? Definitely. But being a football manager is all about stacking the cards to benefit yourself as much as possible. I think he's done that today whilst considering BOTH competitions. Also, people have short memories. He did exactly the same thing in 23/24 and that influenced where the title went, but he was right.

There's accountability with it now. If we get both, great. If we get one, fine. If we get neither, problem. But what I like about Emery is he both sees it and has the mettle to follow up on his instinct. I respect that and pray it pays off.

Emery likes players around him that he trusts, and while I appreciate that, it also gives me the fear we'll blow a load of money we don't have on the likes of Jackson and Juan Foyth when we actually need a much younger and more future-proof squad.

To avoid quoteathoning, that's a interesting point.

The thing is, we're not merely *near* those Champs League spots...we're in them.  We're also in a European semi.  You're right, it's not Unai or bust -his era will end some time - but his track record with us since his appointment has been phenomenal and I genuinely doubt any other manager could match them given the budget restrictions.
