I wonder who's gonna be brave enough to ask him about it at his presser this week. Uncle Tom or Cousin Daz - this is your moment.

Ornstein is usually pretty good. If its reliable info, its really unhelpful of Emerys team to allow such noises out now when we are struggling. Im not sure what purpose it serves other than de-stabilising us further. Its not like it will force the owners to make more signings, thats outside of their control. And if its genuinely that he wants out, why make the noises now, just wait till the summer?

Ornstein isn't repeating football insider rubbish in any case. It's not a surprise but either way Emery needs to steady the ship and finish the season with us strongly. Sending us out a man light in midfield v Chelsea isn't a man on top of his tactical brief.

Not directed at anyone on here but those idiots calling for him to go (I’ve seen quite a few social media posts) think of another manager working with this set of players next season.  Without him we would be lower mid table.

The only people I'm arsed about asking him the question are Wes and Nas. If they're not pressing him on it immediately then I can't help but feel we're in trouble.

Given how deep his claws are in us, we need to start succession planning yesterday if he wants to go.

You're almost convincee that this is true. How about calming down for a second?

Tempted to pack it in if this is true. The rules absolutely fuck you over in every possible way.

Try to compete by investing lots of money on transfers? No, you're not allowed to do that.

Acquire players who are out of contact to avoid falling foul of the transfer spending limits? No, the wages rule will prevent you from doing that.

Sign players to sell on at a profit so you can then invest the profits in the playing squad? No, the new players will want wages and that's not allowed.

Invest in youth to try to produce home-grown stars? No, they'll only want big wages when they get good and that's not allowed. We will also engineer the rules in such a way that you're heavily encouraged/forced to sell off club-trained players in the hope of obtaining "100% profit".

Slavishly stick to the imposed limitations in the hope that the league punishes one of the wealthier clubs for incurring well over a billion quid in debt? No, we don't want to punish those sort of clubs, that's fine.

Get the best manager in the hope that they can do the impossible and achieve success despite all the rules being set up to prevent him doing so? No, he will eventually get frustrated due to all the rules preventing him from competing and sod off to one of the clubs who don't have to worry about said rules.

What is the fucking point? The outcomes in the World Wrestling Federation are less fixed.

Not at all, largely playing devils advocate, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that news from a pretty reliable source, whilst not taken as gospel, should nevertheless encourage a wider discussion amongst fans on the matter of succession.

If Unai leaves he takes half the staff with him. It wouldn't be a case of a simple handover.

"Unai Emery looks increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa this summer, with the Spanish head coach said to be growing frustrated by the club’s financial restrictions. ⛔
The limitations around spending and squad building are understood to be a key source of tension, raising uncertainty over Emery’s long-term future at Villa Park"

The rules working exactly as intended
That's exactly what the FootballInsider article said.

"A summer exit for Unai Emery at Aston Villa is increasingly likely, sources have told Football Insider.

The 54-year-old manager is becoming unsettled at Villa Park due to the financial restrictions surrounding the club."

There's nothing wrong with fans on a forum discussing it, it was your 'Wes and Nas should be pressing him' comment. What do they have to press him on?

Does anyone have the Ornstein article? Or get him on here to explain himself (footy journos these days will do any old podcast, it makes them feel important), the wretched doom-monger.

There isn't an article. It's just the little snippet posted above

If he did go, and that’s a massive if in my book, it’s all in on Iraola for me.

However this feels like a journo pulling together several threads at the moment and fishing for a story.

Villas poor form
Financial restrictions on the club
Emery saying when he arrived he’s not here to waste time
Emery on record as saying we’re not in the top 6 several times this season.

And hey presto you’ve got a story. It could be true it could be bullshit but enough ifs buts and maybes to generate some clicks.

If he does leave that’s an utter disaster.
