I actually felt strangely better watching that but I can't put my finger on why.

I hadn't seen the Unai interview after the game but asie from being upset by the result his anger was so evident when challenged as to why we weren't contenders.

The guy in the middle seemed to talk a lot of sense.

I do think we'll make top 5, and I think Unai think we will - but I think he is trying to remove the pressure off his players so they do get too much pressure and negative press put on them because as he knows theres not much more we can ask of them.

We don’t with the current injuries.

Part of the reason I’m so pissed off about the Everton result, and us carelessly letting Malen go at the point we did, is that with the midfield injuries it is going to be so hard now. If we’d lost, but Kamara, Onana, and SJM were fine I’d be over it by now.

I don't see why it was careless. Maybe Malen really wanted to go when Roma showed an interest. Maybe Roma told us they wanted to do the deal before the weekend and if we didn't it would be lost. Thus screwing us on the deals we wanted/needed to get done. We simply don't have the strongest hand right now. And the other teams/agents know it.

It’s pretty evident it’s careless, given our injuries to willingly weaken the squad. Roma might have said that, but I highly doubt it if it’s a player they really want. Either way, we left ourselves even shorter and we lost the game. We might not have got a result had Malen been available, but we definitely would have had a better chance.

Emery knows the season is going to fizzle out having watched his bizarre post match interview. Restricted from making signings and injuries galore have forced his hand.

If manure want him in the summer he might fancy it tbh. Last week I would have said no chance but that interview is very telling.

Jordan didn't have his research done. Emery wasn't allowed spend any money in the summer - nobody forced him or the club to spend 30m on one of those most technically limited players to play for us in recent memory. Sancho or Elliot, the same. The Rashford type loan deals are the kind that got us into trouble.

The general point about the 'game' being rigged against challengers like us and Newcastle is correct however.

Absolutely no way can a modern Premiership side go 2 transfer windows without strengthening the squad, lose its midfield to injury, who knows how many more injuries will happen as players get tired, Ollie Watkins has probably got one decent game in 5 in him, bearing all this in mind, I don't think for one second this would be Unai's plan, he will want players in, you can't throw everything at PSR when the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal probably Spurs cock a snook at it and walk away, for years, without consequences, spending 100's of millions, the club needs to be careful because Unai could well have is head turned if the rest of the season doesn't happen.

It still has an effect though, in that we are not able to make mistakes - we have to get everything right.  Whereas if Man City or Chelsea spend £30m on a player who doesn't work out, they can just buy another one.
