I’m worried now that 2 bob bit channel and the
“experts” they put out have criticised our world class coach.
There was the question posed - quite reasonably - as to why Unai didn't fully explain his point but he didn't need to did he. Simon Jordan is very complimentary about us generally speaking.

I can imagine the annoyance that he won’t give them anything to blow up into a crisis and that makes me happy. Jordan is the exception to the rule, he doesn’t seem to care about any sort of narrative. It wasn’t long ago that Emery laid into that Matterface for his ridiculous questions.
It wasn’t a strange interview, it was one that Emery has given before but I suppose they needed a headline.

So we’ve gone from having T shirts with Emery quotes…to, he’s leaving us anytime soon, all in the space of 24 hours.

Gloom and doom is alive and well on H&V.

Yep, because Garner didn't get the red he deserved and moments later we managed the rarely-spotted triple defensive blunder to let a goal-allergic forward to unaccountably achieve the best chipped finish of his life.

(Of course it was more than that, of course it was a bad day, but you know, we are kind of overreacting here you know?)

And there it is.

I just think Unai cant stand stupid questions especially when we've lost.

He'd already answered her as to why we are not "contenders" and she then said "why do you think that?". He couldnt see the point of answering again.

Balague deals with this in his book. Unai hates giving these pointless interviews but realises its an obligation. he was v polite i thought.

It's part of the gig. His english, in front of the media anyway, isn't as strong as it ideally could be. They were softball questions but he was the one who created unnecessary noise around the top 5 stuff.

Pissed off with the result/performance, McGinn's injury and failure to get the Gallagher and Tammy deals done.

He had already said he doesn't judge what's possible until matchday 34. He's also clearly annoyed how other teams are able to just go and buy players while we're forced to manage additional restrictions.

He manages the situation superbly overall.
But it must piss you off when you see how others can spend more or less what they want.
We are outperforming our resources but the injury list will inevitably see us slip down the table and he knows that.

Emery doesn’t say anything here he hasn’t been saying all season or before that. It’s classic modern media to try and and drive animosity so there’s more clicks and views.

He talks about “potential” and “capacity” frequently which I interpret as financial resource (“capacity”) others are able to use so yes, there’s several clubs who have way more than us and should, on paper, be finishing above us (“potential”). But the game isn’t played on paper so we ignore the noise and focus on what we’re doing (“our objective”). As he outlined in his programme notes yesterday - we focus on being the best we can be - we are building something special.

The mainstream media have been itching for us to have a stumble so they can trot out the “told you they weren’t contenders” line. F*ck them. We’ve been proving them wrong since Emery walked through the door and we’ll do it again.

That’s exactly right and the thing that pisses me off more than anything.
The ‘we told you so’ reaction from the media who are desperate for us to not destabilise the chosen few.

And we meekly gave them the perfect opportunity to trot that out.

Well, the thing is we're not going anywhere. So the media will have to get used to us upsetting the apple cart sooner or later.

Unai knows the Premier league and Champions league is rigged to avoid a breakaway European Super League. Keep the rich clubs happy. It's that simple.

I don't know if Jim White is just playing devil's advocate or being thick as fuck but he just doesn't get it when Simon Jordan and Pearce try to explain what the issue actually is.
