He seemed a little subdued in the pre Tottenham press conference today.
The most interesting thing he said was admitting the club made mistakes in the summer transfer window, and I don’t think that applies solely to Elliott.

Could be meaning Sancho and Guessand then because it’s not Lindoloff or the goalie

I wonder what Unai's wife is like, how much attention she gets from the Don must be miniscule to the attention he lavishes on the Villa players. Does she need to be more demanding of him in her own way at home?
I feel he’s probably highly demanding and has particularly high standards. He videos every task - everything from bedroom antics right through to putting the bins out - and then watches it obsessively to make sure it’s being completed in the most orderly fashion, with them being in the optimal position for each situation. When he gets lucky he waves his pants around and throws them to the ground in much the same way that he throws his coat when Villa score.

I imagine once you’re accustomed to his ways, he is the world’s finest lovemaker AND gets the plates sparkly clean.

IF we don’t win a trophy this season do you think that Emery will start to replace a lot of the players that have been here for the last few seasons?
I expected him to have a deep overhaul at the end of last season, on the basis that the season had finished on something of a low (league and cup) and that "one more push" with these core players was unlikely to yield more that it had to date.

But it looks now like that extra experience we have is a bit of a super power. And although the form of certain members of that spine has been up and down - Watkins, and to a lesser degree McGinn, Martinez - others seem to have found new levels - Konsa, Cash.

No chance, Emery should be judged on delivering European club football. We are currently 1/12 to finish top 5 again. We do need some younger players in the squad though, average age is second highest in division. At some point stalwarts will be moved on but no real sign of it yet.

We had been watching Guessand for a long time so I don't think he would be it either. I think he's just someone that hasn't adapted to the way we play, the league or the country yet.

Lindeloff has done great, but I'd be surpised if he was first choice. We had bids in for Canvot before we had to concede and not fight Palace for him.

We were going to sign Osula but then realised that UEFA would see it as being part of the Ramsey deal and we wouldn't be able to do the deal.

The way the likes of Martinez and Watkins were dealt with seemed to be a bone of contention. Even with Ramsey, there was talk of arguments at Bodymoor because one of the reasons why he was the sacricial lamb was because he wasn't signing the contract that had been offered to him.

Then there's young players we signed and then loaned on with buy options. Presumably we don't include buy options if we see them being for the future.

Quite a mess really.

Id love to know what the scouts saw in Guessand. Recent stats seemed decent but any kind of eye test would surely have identified his technical limitations. Sancho was a deadline day disaster.

At least Guessand there is potential. Sancho, we’ve got plenty of knowledge with his performances with his time playing in England over the years.

As regards Sancho, I don’t think he’s done anything wrong, he’s not been awful and he’s not been controversial and he’s barely had that many minutes to be even that considered. We can even send him home in the summer. However with the wages we’re paying we have to try and get something from him and it’s just about the levels you’d get from an average Joe, not really what you’d expect from a millionaire with the world at his feet.

Monchi really did do us over last summer.

Had we even drawn the last game at Old Trafford and not shit the bed in how we played most of that game against a really crap Man U side, then Monchi is likely still here and the players we got in a lot better and less of a gamble. That's on Emery and the players as much as what transpired is on Monchi and co. regarding recruitment.

I remember thinking which good players will Ron bring back from the World cup and we ended up with John Fashnau.
