Agree with that - although I had no idea who the Libertines were.  So just went with it.

Pete whatsit wasn't it? Had a skag habit and looked like he needed a long bath.

The Libertines are Peter Ridsdale's Leeds: it seemed like a good idea at the time for reasons we can't understand now, and it was never built to last.

I will not allow it because I'm fond of those first two Libertines albums and I am actively antagonistic to Leeds of any vintage.

Have them down as Bielsa’s Leeds. Threatened to be good for a bit, but ran around like lunatics and got burnt out/did loads of smack.

I quite liked Kewell and Viduka. That doesn't mean they were a good choice.

That's a bit better but still, y'know, Leeds.

Actually, I tried to come up with a better one but I think you've nailed it.

What's more important these days - winning a cup or playing in the Champions League? And more pertinently, which would our new fans prefer?

More important - Champions League - it's easily the biggest driver of revenue growth in the sport.
What fans want - Silverware - winning stuff is what really matters.

That said if we have to choose between the 2 for the next couple of seasons I'd go with regular top 4 finishes without any question because that increases our chances of competing long-term so naturally leads to more chances at silverware, whereas winning a cup (except for the Europa league) doesn't really give you anything to make things easier going forward.

Exactly. The only thing holding us back is our comparatively low commercial revenue, and Champions League participation year after year is pretty much the only solution to that problem.

Howe said he's happy where he is because he can "express myself in the best way possible and be the best version of myself"

I mean he was talking about having a good relationship with his board (which feels pointed), but fuck, the caretaker of Prince Bonesaw's sports PR department can spare me the therapy speak.

Older fans 45/50+  - Trophies
Youngsters  -  Champs league

this is a non provable generalization

You need the Champions League to get the revenues and exposure and revenues to win trophies. But the aim is still to win trophies - you just want it to be a little more sustainable than Wigan or Leicester.
