On a scale of 1-10 of how worried we should be, I'm currently at zero.

Same. Emery is not going to Man Utd.

Even if he did, and he won’t, I’d trust this group to bring in the right person to replace Unai. But, he’s going nowhere as we have set the whole club up around Unai and it is very clearly working, despite the very best efforts of the FA to hold us back.

I think even the dopes on Sky realise Emery is creating something special at Villa. No doubt Merson or some other fool will trot out his name at some point but it is a non starter as most realise.

Not a chance. The next in line for that shambles will be a yes man as will it be at Chelsea.

If it was Real or Spain I might be worried, but not them.

Would he manage Real Madrid? A lot of Basques probably wouldn't on principle but not sure where he stands politically.

Lopetegui and Alonso did. Some players like Arconada made a thing out of staying in the Basque Country as does Inaki Williams so far whereas plenty of others were happy to take the Spanish Peseta

Indeed, get every Basque manager, put them in the Bernabeu and they'd all instantly make a dash for the way out.  It'd be a disaster - they'd have all their Basques in one exit :)

I think Gareth Southgate would be the ideal choice.

I think the current head coach for the Trinidad and Tobago national team would be better providing Man U can come up with a big compensation package. Knowing them, they'd probably allow him to do both jobs.

They could possibly have pushed hard to get Emery in last summer. No chance now. Eddie Howe might be gettable this time for them, seems a bit unsettled recently. Not sure if related to the glare from that perma tanned gimp who stands in front of him on the touchline each week.

We should get Unai to write a letter to Chemical Jim to look at the young buck pulling up chimneys in Small Heath.

It's the least we can do.

The respective trajectories of the two clubs aside, the main reason why Unai appointed us was that he's got a free hand here. Compare that with Manchester United, where even Ferguson was kept in check by the board.

Let them, just like they did before Amorin was appointed too. As big a club as ManU are and as attractive as they’re perceived to be it is unlikely they'll make CL Qualification this season where it’s looking very possible for us. Add that scenario to the layers of management there that any appointee manager would have to deal with it can only point to one suitable candidate, step forward Gareth Southgate.
