Blimey, that’s a right swamp of manager talent.

Yep, they should have all their tails tied together and chucked into the Serpentine.

He's cemented 4th place in my favourite Villa manager list.

DOL, Lambert Gerrard ?

Turner, DiMatteo, McNeill

Houillier annoyed me the most with his fawning attitude at Anfield.

First Villa game in charge v Wolves away and commenting on Heskey’s winner from Warnock’s cross “It was made in Liverpool.”

Fuck off.

Shortly after his 7-12th mutterings before he even took the job.

Always gave off the vibe off a disinterested consultant.

People say it was clear Lerner had lost it with the McLeish appointment but it started with this guy.

Never seemed to want the job and in hindsight shouldn’t have been coaxed out of semi retirement.

The thing about Houllier was he may have been a massive twat but we did play some bloody good football that season when we could be bothered. In hindsight he was also helped massively by every single result going our way on the final day which meant we came 9th having started it 15th or something.

Results have improved massively but Unai needs to up his coat game as we head into winter. Doesn't have to be Thom Browne like Scott Parker, but Adidas TERREX simply won't do if we have any aspirations of finishing top 4.

Two fortunate wins at the end of houllier’s season papered over the cracks of some dismal performances.

I have a black cardigan with a full zip from top to bottom. I wear it a lot. It's probably a cheap George version of what Unai has but it makes me feel good.

On Houllier it is worth remembering that at one point he had 13 or 14 of the 25 man squad out injured including every senior central midfielder at the club, I think it was Liverpool away where we had Ciaran Clark and Jonathan Hogg in centre midfield.

Attention to sartorial detail is sadly lacking in most assessments of managerial performance.
Not on H&V, I’m glad to see.

What about the rest of the top six form after January? And what was fortunate about winning comfortably at Arsenal (fourth) then beating Liverpool (sixth)?

Too true.

* Just got a mental collage of past managers wearing

sheepskin in the 70’s - GT, BFR
Smart overcoat (BL)
Very Smart tracksuits with DS and JG on chest
Less smart tracksuit with MON on it
Suits - GH, DeC, RG, DOL ( with a big cashmere scarf)
Sludge Green anorak- PL
Topless - Ron Saunders (usually not pitch side)

Maybe I am rewriting history, but I seem to remember Houllier being shocked at the (lack of) fitness levels of the squad and the many Billy Big-Bollocks attitudes, which he duly set about correcting. I think had he not suffered with his health he would have developed a good side for us - something we will obviously never know.

He may have had a point with our Bash St Kids, but every new manager expresses shock, surprise and dismay at their new team's fitness levels.

As Paul says we had a load of injuries under Houlier. In the 2-2 at home to ManU we had Albrighton, Hogg and Bannan start, and the bench was Lichaj, Lowry, Herd, Osbourne, Johnson and Fonz as another example.

And we finished 9th because we only lost 4 of the last 17, not because we 'jammed' two wins.

Agreed, he should go back to his Boss clobber, immediately.
