I think that's what is making us look so bad at the moment, the offside trap fails and we give up lots of chances. We simply don't look as organised or drilled in the trap, and not having others putting pressure on the ball in front of the defense. Opposition midfielders have more time to pick runners from deeper positions and we look shambolic.

playing so much through Rogers is a huge issue , yes he's a trier and likes to bomb forwards but hapless endeavour doesn't work in this league . I think his new monster contract was hasty and too soon . Same can be said for Duran . We have some structural issues and Unai needs to solve them fast.

i think the point is its been longer than a month, there has been a steady decline since last Xmas which is now gathering pace

There reallly is no point even engaging with him when he's in this sort of mood.

i think i read our league results Jan 2024 - May 2024 had us 9th
and now this season we are 12th .
I think it's fair many fans can see a downturn after Emery's amazing start here . I don't think that's controversial at all

Because no one has got any fucking patience anymore and as soon as we hit a rut all the good work he has done previously with a bunch of players that weren’t deemed good enough is soon forgotten and counts for nothing.

Of course that was that steady decline into 4th. Feck it, I give up.

It's not that hard a concept to grasp, surely? Yes, least season as a whole was great, we finished 4th and that was brilliant, obviously. But it was largely built on a superb first half of the season. First 19 games, 39 points and 25 goals conceded (4th in the table on points) Second 19 games, 29 points and 36 goals conceded. (9th in the table on points). Unfortunately, that slow and steady decline in defensive ability and knack of winning games has continued into this season, and got worse. On top of that, they style and tactics that were so well drilled last year are completely absent this season.

As I say, last season was brilliant and in terms of finishing 4th it doesn't matter how you you achieve the points. But the decline in the second half of the season was a portent of things to come, and that's how it's turned out, unfortunately. And there's just no sign of anything changing. Unai's team selections are weird, and his subs usually worse than hopeless. And obviously the team can't do a single thing right.

Can't accept the harsh reality of the above

Ive seen a few posts about us over achieving last year.  I dont agree with that. We just weakened ourselves this summer as the stats prove

If our best 11 of last year could play our best 11 of this years team. This years team would get murdered

Yes, I found it really tedious when we won 15 home games on the bounce, were regularly smashing sides by fours and fives last autumn, made a European semi final for the first time in 40 years and made the CL.

I much preferred the high octane Lambert years.  We want our Villa back.
