The owners are fully invested in the manager and have pretty much given him everything he has asked for, the only restrictions have been around spending limits that they cannot control. He in turn has delivered Champions League football with a great chance to qualify for the knock out stages for the first time in 40 years. The notion that they might be considering ripping it all up at the first sign of trouble is fanciful. If I remember rightly Newcastle’s league form dipped when they played in it.

Fancifull and darn rIght ridiculous.
Anybody considering consigning UE to the scrap bin needs ano immediate blood test to test whether blue and white flows out of their veins.

That we are easy to set up against as Emery always plays the same way.  Glasner then said that our style of play suits them - which was correct.

Boh, I guess that's our problem - beforehand people knew what we were going to do but couldn't work out a way to stop it, and now they have. I'm sure as we speak Emery is in a bunker with about 20 screens showing various bits of bad play over and over again. Hopefully he'll come up with a counter-answer.

I'm not sure that's what's going on... I think the problem is the execution of the plan.  The amount of chances we've missed makes me convinced these teams haven't found newly decisive way to stop us at all.  We are low on confidence and that won't be fixed until we get a result of two.

The thing is that bar one game the plan has been executed almost perfectly in the Champions League.

And would have worked were it not for one of the most bizarre penalties/goals ever... which we had a good go at trying to out-do yesterday!

I have never bought into the Newcastle Champions League comparison. For one, their form dropped by having a small squad and a massive injury list.

The current situation is like strongly suspecting that your hitherto messiah is in fact a very naughty boy. It rocks your faith in the football future.

I’ve never been a huge fan of his style of play, it’s really tedious but when you keep winning game after game you put up with that and salute the tremendous progress he’s brought to the club.

Now we have the tedium, poor individual performances and terrible results.
Something has to give. This week is crucial, particularly the Southampton match.

Tedious, really?

When we're on it, we're one of the most entertaining teams in the league to watch - say pretty much all neutrals, too.
