You are right in that. What happened to that lad who was on the bench a few times last season, Young was it? A winger I think?

He's been playing (and scoring) with the underage teams, but I also wondered recently why he'd dropped off the radar a bit.

The concern  is that he has stuck in a MON way and picking the same players week in week out.
We can only assume that he didn’t rate all of the other options.
Not sure how much more he can get out of this bunch.

He is stuck more by what he has. Also he did rotate against City and some complained.

The team he had last night is the team most would of gone with ( some may have gone Diarby instead of Rogers).

Agree. There's only so much he can do with players out and suspensions. We've got Doug out for the next two league games which is going to create another problem. I think we've done amazingly well so far for our first season back in Europe. All this treading water and Unai boxing himself in is unfair. Some fans want the moon on a stick.

Tbf, he does keep saying we need to be demanding.

I can envisage a scenario where Tim was thrown into the Kamara role as a like for like replacement, sufferred, and immediately had fans on his back. Ditto KKH.

I still don't understand not playing McGinn alongside Luiz. He came in, we beat Fulham, Forest, Luton and Ajax (plus draw away), and only fucked it when he infamously lost his head against Spurs. That's a solution to Kamara that for some reason he no longer wants to use and I originally didn't want him there! Maybe it was because those teams were easier opposition, I don't know, but I'd rather see him there with his massive arse turning players than Tielemans.

Yeah, I agree...

If we aren't going to use Iroegbunam then McGinn & Douglas Luiz have to be in front of the back four.

With Bailey & Rogers as the wingers/attacking mids.

Tielemans on the bench as an option...

But then to be fair, he scored one and created the other playing further forward. The issue is with Tielemans, he just isn't consistent enough in any one position. He can be a lovely player with a great range of passing, but he can also have the sort of game where you don't even notice he's playing.

I think with his goal, as it's a set piece, he would have likely been there anyway. I think balance wise I would only play Tielemans off Watkins. I guess Emery sees McGinn's pressing from the front more important, I just think it is too detrimental to losing the midfield battle.

Tim isn't a defensive midfielder. No idea where this idea has come from.

He is a defensive midfielder number 6 who has been pushed forward to a box to box number 8 when on loan at times, depending on the needs of the club.

I think he enjoyed playing there at times, especially as the responsibility at number 6 is more important to be positionally disciplined, but his skills lay as a number 6.

When he & Carney Chuckwemeka won that England tournament, Iroegbunam was a 6 & Chuckwemeka was an 8.

They looked good playing together too btw... Very complimentary.

Because when he went to QPR on loan, they initially played him as a deep-lying midfielder under Beale.  He played a bit further forward under the next manager, but played most of his time in midfield with other midfielders ahead of him. That doesn't mean he's a DM and nothing else, just where he was mostly utilised by QPR.  That's from a QPR supporting mate at the end of last season, btw, not my impression.

For Villa I can't see him being used in any other position than as a defensive midfielder. There's too much quality/experience ahead of him in the other roles.

There's a struggle in the full back areas.
All three of Brentford’s goals in the 3-3 draw last weekend came from Sergio Reguilon crosses down Villa’s right, following a trend that has been going on for some time.

Manchester City’s first goal in a 4-1 win the previous match was a cutback after Lucas Digne was beaten down Villa’s left,
West Ham’s goal in the 1-1 draw was a cross from Villa’s left
3/4 of Spurs' goals in their 4-0 win were attacks behind the full-backs.

In total, eight of Villa’s last 12 goals conceded have followed the same pattern.

Looks like a lot of the players call him 'Mister'. https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1778454526392988038

Not just his 100th game as manager, but Villa's 100th game in Europe. https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1778443776454787402

We'll probably lose.

Missed a 0 for the first stat.

I won't be able to sleep tonight.

For someone who works with big numbers in their profession, I thought you wouldn't.
