Yep, when players give the ball away needlessly you’re asking for trouble. Konsa seriously fucked up which was nothing to do with systems or management.

Yes, but when the management sends the team out to defend for a 0-0 it puts enormous pressure on the defenders, who are usually good on the ball when we take the game to the opposition. We always concede. There is no justification for today's tactics.

I don’t think any coach can ever legislate for defending like that today.
Everything then goes out of the window and we have to chase the game and then McGinn has a head loss. Maybe, just maybe, Emery sees the players in training and can see what best fits the state of the squad.
I think Emery was let down today by terrible mistakes at the back and when you look at the bench and there’s not much there to change it. He’s not past criticism but he’s not let us down so far. Without him we’d be mid table at best.

But Emery should legislate for defending like that, because we do it virtually every game, usually within 10mins of the restart. Always add 1 to the opposition score at HT.

I don’t know how he can, apart from dropping the offending player. We don’t have the luxury of doing that.
You can plan and coach a team to defend but you can’t legislate for individual mistakes like those today.

How about planning and coaching the team to try to win?

Who said he didn’t?
We were wasteful quite a few times in the first half and I could see the plan. Just because it was a poor performance it doesn’t mean he didn’t have a plan to win the game.

Nobody expects to win every game. I expect him to set us up to give us a chance though.

And we were at half time. Then mistakes cost us goals. As they always seem to do.

I disagree. We set up to keep them out, in my view. That's obviously a huge mistake because we always concede. If the long ball to Watkins was our plan to win, we didn't have a plan to win.

We have definitely lost belief against decent sides. Unai really needs to get that back.

If course there is. It just didn't work today.

If Watkins had shot instead of trying to square for Bailey, it would have been completely different and I believe we'd have gone on to win.

It was as cagey a first half as you're likely to see. A proper tactical, and technical, half of football.

There wasn't an obvious replacement for Ramsey though. Start Diaby and move Tielemans over I guess would have been the more logical choice but Diaby flopped midweek. Tielemans can't be trusted on left or in any position if we are honest, complete show pony.

All I know is I never want to see either Cash or Konsa in their respective roles again.

I dont know. Didn't trust Rogers yet? Shape really disrupted everything that's good about us and nullified our own midfield. A poor one.

Wasn’t that flagged offside?
