I have been thinking about this today having calmed down.  I’m still gutted about being out the FA Cup - but I think only the fans really care about the FA cup. 

When we outplayed Man City - all there fans would have thought they were shit.  But we were also absolutely amazing - the best I have ever seen a villa team play.

A big part of last night and Newcastle is they both played really well - and they are both good enough to do that to any team in the world on there day. 

Ultimately we have done amazing this season - but as things stand our back line - and much vaunted high line have gone because we have a make shift back 4.  We have no backup striker, and only about 16 fit first squad players.  This includes Zanilio, Diaby and Ramsey who are all hideously out of form. 

I don’t really see what else Emery could do - we can’t mix things up as we don’t have the squad noir would FFP allow us to have the squad.

I know his tatics were wrong last 2 games and led to us losing the game in middle of the park.  But we don’t really have any options other than knee jerk changes in approach and I don’t think unai fancies those

That was a Newcastle team missing loads of their best players, and with very ordinary players like Schar, Miley (who's 17), Longstaff and Murphy. Newcastle absolutely aren't capable of doing that to any team in the world, and they were the second worst away team in the Premier League at the time. They won't have an easier away game all season.

Pretty much this - in addition I think some fans have been "taken in" by all the talk of "Fortress Villa Park" and maybe the players too

We went on a 15 match winning streak at home so in what way were we taken in by Fortress Villa Park? If anything, the home matches were the most conducive to Emery's system at the time. Yes Sheffield Utd was a bad result at home but they were the first team to turn up with 11 around their box and a slight new manager bounce, and even then we were a VAR shout from beating them. But for whatever reason the last two home games have been players not even doing the basics. All the recent bad results have one thing in common which is no Torres? Has he been the literal difference between funeralling other teams and being funeralled ourselves?

Yeah but I would imagine they would think a lot of our players are very ordinary too - they wouldn't be in a rush to take any of the defense that played against them bar Konsa for a start.  Your right, that Newcastle team wasn't filled with world betters but they have a good coach set up well against us and played their game plan perfectly.

This is it - Newcastle and Chelsea both shipped 4 goals in their last games, it’s pretty shit that we scraped a single consolation goal.

We had a similar wobble last year at a similar time losing to Leicester, Man City and Arsenal on the trot, but we came out of that to win 8 of the next 10 to end the season really strongly, so I'm hoping this will be similar!

Tactically we were a bit more pragmatic then, we need to go back it given our injury list. I know we always over rate players who are out injured but Mings and Buendia are big losses. Both have a bit of dig about them when things aren't going right. We had none of that last night.

As well as stating Cash wasnt good enough, my lad said mud way through the 2nd half, with no Mings and now no Konsa, our main leaders on the pitch are gone. I think he has a point

I'm hoping we were shit on Wednesday because the focus and analysis has been prioritised on Sunday. We need to perform, put this lot to the sword and secure consecutive league victories.

I won't be greedy and ask for 5 again, 4 will do.

We have been far too open right across the field in the last two home games, and have lacked intensity. As a result, we have been shipping early goals, to the point of no return. In both games though we have at least kept playing, and scored goals late on. We need to become more pragmatic, and return the emphasis to how it was for much of last season, namely DO NOT GO BEHIND, at least until such point as we have grasped a solid foothold in the game. Then we play our football in the last 30 minutes, not the first 30.

If you retain position then the multiple central boxes we set up in, works. Works very well in fact. If you're going to give it away like a ten dollar whore, then you'll be exposed at full back, unless your midfield has extreme levels of pace to recover. Torres will make us look 100% better.
