From what I've read, Emery still approved of the Duran deal. The due diligence had been done but we weren't committed.

Yes, I guess it's whether that makes it his deal...

Oh and Emery is perfect for us. graceful, kind, demanding, works hard and always looking to improve. Everything you'd want your kids to be.

I'm loving that we're this week's clickbait magnets, everyone's pumping out videos and whatnot about us to get attention and that's great - but I wouldn't be a Villa fan if it didn't make me a bit nervous!

Brentford's a tough game, we always seem to do rubbish there, and it's a classic kind of game for us to do a classic Villa defeat in.

I'm sure Emery's got them absolutely laser-focused on it though. I just hope it works! But good God if anyone can make it work...

Lucky for us Steve Bruce or Lego head aren’t manager. Because if we know anything at all Unai and his team aren’t paying attention to any of it and doing their best to prepare for the next challenge. Whatever the result it won’t be down to a lack of trying to plan properly in order to try and win the game. His obsession with trying to improve every day is what allows my sphincter to unclench.

On his podcast with Julien Laurens, Gab Marcotti was asked if we could win the title and he said he thought we were two January signings away. Not no, not don't be ridiculous, not laughing it out of town, a genuine thought about what would help make that final step.

What the fuck timeline is this, I don't even know.

I've been away, so catching up.. but whilst Gerrard going out there almost certainly clinched it, we'd already identified Kamara as a target beforehand and Gerrard just clinched it.

Much like Duran coming in when he did, we'd already got the deal sorted before Emery confirmed he'd be happy to have him.

It's not that similar really. Kamara only announced he wasn't signing a new deal in the March; then Gerrard, Purslow and Lange went over to watch him in April. Before that, there were reports that Man U had turned down a chance to sign him in the January window but nothing linking us that I can recall. He then signed for us in May after Gerrard visited him at home. The majority of the work on Duran had been done before Emery arrived, and he gave his blessing for it to go ahead.

The reports at the time suggested it was Gerrard visiting him at his home that made him sign for us. Atlético Madrid had also wanted to sign him but when they visited him he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, so they dropped their interest.

I was stood behind Marcotti in a queue getting an ice cream from a van once he was rude to the ice cream woman.

Maybe she was pissed off for having to wafer so long.

This whole story sounds a bit flakey to me.

Football Ramble spent a solid ten minutes or so talking about nothing but how good we were, barely mentioned Arsenal apart from to say that maybe we didn't push them like we did Man City because we were comfortable enough to not need to.

Their version was "get through Christmas in good shape and they'll be in as good a shape as anyone to win it".

Some Villa fans I've spoken to have said that a) at least we shouldn't get relegated this season or b) "I'd take 6th place if it was offered."

Bit of a contrast to challenging for the title.

Did he suggest who the two players should be?
