Nas on growing the “Emery family” as we Real Union joins up. It’s all part of the plan to keep Unai more than just a manager of the club but a central feature in the overall infrastructure. He’s clearly absolutely critical to everything we are now and will be in the future.

This could be our best signing. Lock him up in a golden tower.

I still remember a Liverpool fan (so Gerrard apologist) questioning my criticism of him. Something along the lines of what better could one expect from Villa.

I had someone at work today try to tell me that Emery's reputation outweighed his actual ability and he wasn't all that.

I was so gobsmacked I forgot to give them a round of fucks.

Weird timing for that hot take.

32 points from his last 32 league games in charge of us.

In fairness there were plenty on here blaming the players and saying no manager could do better as none of them apart from Martinez were good enough for the top 10.

And Deano's last 38 league games - 46 pts.

Some improvement wasn't a surprise given Unai's the first time World Class manager Villa have had in my lifetime. After last season's 'miracle' run to Europe, I expected the 2+ ppg pace to drop off but that hasn't happened yet. Truly remarkable what he's achieved in a year.

Going back the the video posted earlier and seeing Arsenal fans holding up "No Formation, No Tactics, Nowhere to hide" cards at Emery seems laughable. I wonder how much was because:=
he followed Wenger,
he had fans expecting to win the league,
he had bigger players with bigger egos to deal with
he didn't have as much backroom support.
he just wasn't ready for the Prem.

That is the dictionary definition of an Arsenal supporter isn't it.

Yeah he's alright for the most part. Very one eyed when it comes to Liverpool but our shared hatred of the Manchester clubs keeps football chat on an even keel.

Emery's reputation in England when he came to us a year ago was not that high.  Even Arsenal fans are looking back now and think perhaps he wasn't all that bad but they are petulant demanding fucks.

That is the Emery who won more than half his games at the Arse but couldn't satisfy supporters who spent best part of a decade hounding their best ever boss. Pundits who buy into the myth of Emery failing in Islington clearly can't be bothered with research, while Gooners couldn't be trusted to appraise a trainee McDonald's manager.

Still every mention of Emery has to be accompanied by a "despite his time at Arsenal" barb, yet Pochettino is never given credit for allowing trophy engravers so much time off.

Not forgetting that Arteta can't have been that far from the sack after his awful start to life as Arsenal boss.
