I saw Potter linked yesterday but they reckon he's off to Sweden next.

And why not Eddie Howe at Newcastle Won Fuck All United? Why are the media not linking him more strongly? How about Arteta? Man U is a bigger club than Arsenal. Maybe Ange-ball would walk out of Spurs yet I don’t see those lazy links. Surely Thomas Frank would punt Brentford?

It's because there's a media conspiracy against Villa. You'd think they'd be too busy covering more successful clubs, but no. They're all part of a plot to do us down, starting with a comment piece on a local website, ending with the hiring of a big blimp to hover above parliament with "SOTV" written on this side. It's the only explanation.

I must admit I thought Ten Hag would be the answer for Man U.  I thought he was an outstanding manager and was pretty convinced he'd be the one to turn them around.  I don't think there's any prospect of Emery jumping ship right now anyway, but Ten Hag struggling should give any potential manager pause for thought.

Of course, as much of a basketcase as they seem to be, they have won Europa League, FA cup & 2 x League cup (and finished top 4 five times) in the last 10 years.  I could live with that sort of failure tbh.

It's all relative though. When they've lived through the Alex Ferguson years and were used to dominating everything, this is a massive come down.

Not if we were spending more than anyone else to achieve it, and whilst the rags were winning the league at a canter every year and taking the piss out of us in derbies.

They have a net spend of somewhere around £1.3bn in that 10 year spell, to put it in context.

Perfectly summed up.

Those red wanker "fans" think people hate them due to their previous successes - it is really lost on them it is their  grossly over sense of entitlement and arrogance that drives that which is driven by media sycophantic drivel like this.

They are not even the biggest team in their own city anymore and they just cannot handle it - i love it[quote a

According to talkshite Ten Hags days are numbered and our Unai is the perfect fit at the theatre of the wankers

And Jennifer Connelly is a perfect fit for me, but that is about as likely as Emery to ManU...

I would imagine that if they do sack Ten Hag, they'd go for somebody relatively cheap to get hold of like Potter or *prays to the gods* Gareth Southgate.
That's the best bit. Ten Hag is IMO a really good manager and they'll struggle to improve on him. Like it or not, they're such a shambles right now that I think they've slipped down the pecking order, which now probably looks like:

Manc City
Liverpool
--
Arsenal
--
Manc Utd
The Villa
Newcastle
Spurs
--
Chelsea
--
Everyone else

Both Chelsea and them are on a downwards trajectory as far as that goes. Absolutely wouldn't surprise me if one or both end up in a similar situation to the one Everton are in now.

I'd love to agree but Man Utd have too much turnover to fall that far and Chelsea, whilst a mess right now, have a young squad that will get better (and would already be a better side with a decent forward so Nkunku coming back might have a big impact for them).

They’re going through the same cycle as when Busby left.  McGuinness, Docherty, Sexton, BFR before finally lucking out with Ferguson and even then he took four years to win anything.  In todays world Ferguson would’ve been sacked long before that.  I had thought that Ten Haag could be the new Ferguson as he came from a relatively small club but gave them success.

The job is not attractive in its current ownership form.  However, it will always be of interest to anyone with ambition to succeed.  Even so I can’t see them sacking him pending the arrival of Ratcliffe.  It wouldn’t make any sense seeing as he wants complete control of football matters.

As for Mr Emery I think his experiences of PSG and the Arse would lead him to the conclusion that he fits certain ‘less fashionable’ clubs where the expectation is not as high or deluded as those others.  Certain managers fit certain clubs.  It just feels right with him here.  See also Potter at Brighton.  Frank at Brentford.

Is he that good though? I'm sure he doesn't make all the decisions by himself, but he's still bought Martinez, Casemiro, Antony, Mount, Onana and Hojland for the thick end of £400m. He can't say he hasn't been backed. Elanga wasn't a world beater, but not sure it was worth the £60m+ differential to get rid of him and bring Antony in.

The Elanga transfer is even more odd if you consider that his next move was to sign a striker who needs wingers who go on the outside and cross the ball in to him. Instead either side of Hojlund are two wide forwards who both instinctively cut inside and shoot.

Thanks Riss, I was waiting to see them listed like that as I couldn’t think of all of them. What a glorious waste of money. Sancho by the previous manager as well. Lovely.
