There's an article on him in the Guardian as well.

It's as if the scales have fallen from the eyes of the media over the weekend.

Our Manager, as has been pointed out, comes across as an absolute Gentleman and in my lifetime I can only think of Sir Graham and Brian Little who were similar.

What about Dean Smith, came across as a good egg and of course a villa fan as well. Top bloke is Deano.

Be great if the club could find a job somewhere for Deano.  Would be a great ambassador.

I’m sure he’d rather have a proper job.

Where does he go next though? Only a desperado would have taken that Leicester gig and it didn't work. Little joy at Norwich either. In the mix for gigs in championship like Stevie G and countless others.  Think he might get one more decent go and if that don't work then could be an ambassador gig at Villa for him.

Emery had a point to prove when he came to Villa, he sure proved that point very quickly. Improved so many players whose careers were starting to stall. Made hard decision on others like Ings and unpopular ones on Archer & A Ramsey. It was obvious even from the first game when we hammered Man United at home and he schooled EtH tactically that this guy was on a different level.

Id love to know what Gerard thinks about it all.

A top coach needs to be single minded and, to an extent, have a big ego, but he must be questioning whether he’s cut out for management considering the difference between now and then.

I think Smith would have too much pride to do an ambassador type role, and it would also be weird for Emery to have such a recent manager hanging round the place. Give it ten years, maybe. Dean Smith is only 52, I'm sure he's not done with management yet, he just needs to pick his next job a bit more carefully.

He could do with another Brentford type post, an unfancied small club with an ambitious project, in it's early stages.

In a way I feel for him a bit, the absolute chasm in ability between himself and his successor is burying his career deeper with every passing week. Had he been followed like many before with another chancer with similar ability he may have been able to trot out the same excuses about fickle fans, unreasonable expectations etc. but he's got no chance now.

In another way though, he can get fucked.

I would go with the latter analysis.

One good thing, no, there are lots of good things about his departure but one that used to really get on my wick were those insufferable You tubers doing unfunny impersonations of Gerrard.

Wolves?

Ah, the ambitious project bit rules them out.

I imagine with his deluded ego he will convince himself that he was hard done by not being given enough time or financially supported in the same way that Unai has been.

I'll bet, largely due to said ego, he hates Emery, and absolutely seethes when he sees him on TV.

The impersonators are twats to be fair, but the compilation of actual Gerrard footage with him saying it over and over made me laugh. Perhaps i'm easily pleased !
I never had a problem with him and still don't, it was just a very wrong choice for a number of reasons. Anyway, we came through it and got the right on in the end.

As for Wolves, it would be another one on the way down. Deano learned his lesson on that with Leicester, although they do fit the small club criteria.
Norwich are a yo yo club with an over inflated sense of their own importance, i think as close to another Brentford as possible would be worth a shot for him.

I agree with everything except the first 9 words.
