Rooney has at least attempted to learn the ropes a bit.

A year and a half at the bottom of the Championship and a year in a nothing league like the MLS? That's even less impressive than Gerrard's Rangers tenure, surely?

Rooney has at least attempted to learn the ropes a bit. This is where we find out how much he knows. Side in the top 6, possible money to spend, all his own people.

Crash and burn, la. Crash and burn.

Yep, Rooney deserves some respect for that at least; and staying at Derby when he had other offers too. Let's hope it all proves to be a waste of time.

Higher profile yes, but I reckon Rangers will win 60% of their matches regardless of what the manger does.

It’s going to end in tears. Tears of misery for them and laughter for us.

I love Emery to bits, but by christ he's the worst ever at pre-match press stuff. "We must always be demanding to improve. There are seven teams clearly contending to be in the top seven, and we are a team, like Brighton and West Ham, trying to get a European position.

The players and I are being very demanding and trying to push the club to increase our level". Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, give the "demanding" stuff a rest Unai! ;)

Personally I think Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool will take the top 3 positions quite easily
Leaving 4th and 5th up for grabs to a few contenders including us

I know what you mean but at least we know he’s at the training ground actually coaching and passing on knowledge and working on a game plan and and not using the same phrases and sound bites in the dressing room like Brucie and Gerrard did.

“Ffs Ginny, roll those fucking sleeves up and win the ball and pass the ball to Jack”

Or

“Ffs Mings you twat, pass the ball to Coots for magic to happen”

I enjoyed that game on the basis that for every minute of the performance, you knew it was one step closer to having the chancer removed.

Same
I sat behind the goal in the nuetral bit and remember saying to my kids after the third goal there’s no way he’ll survive this
Then as he walked across the pitch at the end the Villa fans sang the slippy G song, I mean, when your own fans are singing that the end is nigh

I really enjoyed the night too. Bumped into a great group of Villa fans from Seattle in a pub in Fulham before the game (this was the 2nd of 3 Villa games they were over for, having seen the home defeat to Chelsea the previous Sunday*), took my son to Craven Cottage for the first time, quickly realised this HAD to be the end of Gerrard, then received the confirmation he’d gone by hearing the celebrations of other Villa fans on the train home as we passed through (no word of a lie) Gerrard’s Cross!

*Happy ending alert - the Seattle Lions made it to VP for the 4-0 win against Brentford on the Sunday after and also visited the Hen and Chickens for the full Desi pub experience!
Yeah I met those guys in the Villa Tavern. Good lads and they could really hold their drinks. They were supposed to go home after the Chelsea game but stayed on for the Brentford game. I don't think they'd seen a Villa goal let alone a win so they wasn't going home until they did.

Yes, I know that of all his tasks, it's by far the least important. It just gets a bit samey though. "Moreno is out, and we are demanding to be improving and demanding." No matter what the question is actually about!

Even though we have spent nearly a year being one of the best sides in the country I love that he goes on about demanding more, because you know he means it. He won't stop until we're the best, and if we managed that he'd still want more. Compare it to the shit we had before about "rolling our sleeves up", "needing a bit of magic from our attackers" or the never to be forgotten "they should be coming to Villa Park and wiping the floor with us". I'll take Unai's samey over the shit that came before every day of the week.

No, I agree, it’s always a bit crap. I just wonder if it’s nerves and he’s not that comfortable in front of a camera? He always has that little rub of the face. Or even a controlled approach to not giving too much away.

He can do his press conferences in Klingon for all I care as long as we keep progressing. It's way better than 'Tyrone needs to look me in the eye' bollocks which came out of the last's managers mouth.

I think Risso is being demanding with his critique and Unai will look to improve as a result, it's a perfect example of the dynamic at work.

Pre-match press conferences in their very nature are repetitive. It's no wonder that answers start to be so, especially when it's not in your first language.
