Considering where we are now and what we've done in the past year it feels like a parallel universe to back then. A time where plenty thought the owners had lost interest, that Gerrard wasn't to blame as the players were shit. None of them, apart from Emi1, were good enough to be top 10 and so on. And here we are now, with mainly the same players and running at CL qualification for nearly a season. You won't find many better examples of the difference between a shit manager and coaching and a great manager and coaching than Aston Villa for the past year.

Emery has totally changed my view on just how much change a manager can achieve. And massively increased my respect for the intelligence and adaptability of footballers. Same players, same club, night and day.

I think it showed the leadership we'd been lacking at the top for a long time. The owners weren't afraid to admit they'd made a mistake and acted swiftly, and replaced him with the best possible person. Was also the beginning of the end for Purslow and the shift towards our current back room set up.

Yes, normally announced like that after a home game, or the next morning after an away one. But to fire him and then him having to travel back for 3 hours on the same coach as the players must have been awkward. Especially if he was having to call his agent, his wife etc.

It's like night and day the contrast between Gerrard and El Maestro.
Emery has just been breathtaking (give or take the odd cup mishap) and the team, style and attitude is a delight it makes Gerrard look even worse as a coach, manager.
The thing is he was a rookie and Emery is elite.
In many ways it is an indication of how influential the manager is.

The Villa fans spoke that night and decisive action was taken.
I was proud of those who chanted it.
It was very passionate and emotive and I felt with them watching in TV the same rage and annoyance.
The owners knew. And he knew.
His game was up.
As for Gary McAllister I not sure exactly what he was doing in his time with Stevie G. Just someone who backed him.

Awful mistake as coaching appointment but never want to look back now as the next level is here.

I still don't understand that. Surely you'd book a hotel room for the night, or get a taxi back. Why put yourself through that?! Glad he did though.
