2023 Premier League table, all have played 30 league games apart from Newcastle with 29.

1 Man City 71 points
2 Arsenal 61
3 Villa 59
4 Liverpool 56
5 Man Utd 55
6 Brighton 54
7 Newcastle 50
8 Spurs 50

I think we have been hovering between 2nd & 4th for a while now.

Its really impressive considering the injuries & the huge disruption to the whole left hand side of our team & our main attacking output, that is key to the way we play...

I cannot wait for some of the injured players to be back so that we can start to settle as a team again... 👌👍

I like the self-awareness of the last line “ as long as we don’t become crazy or idiots to break this good atmosphere”.

Quite amusing too when considering the events down the road this week.

Although he is stated Dyche and O'Neill as two of the top 50 managers in the world. I wonder if Rooney also makes the 50?

Interesting article, thanks. Emery needs to stay here for the next ten years and beyond.
Yep, we need to make sure he's our Wegner.
And what is also necessary is that they put in place a perennial structure that allows the club to function at the level to which we are becoming accustomed without too much upheaval, if one or all of the team were to go or get the push.

Not too sure about that, in fact, I'd say the only thing that worries me is if Unai went, the coaching team would be off too (as per usual in these circumstances) but so would the likes of Vidagany and Monchi.

The last two paragraphs of the article stood out to me:

“I’m feeling in the atmosphere of this club that it can be a contender, even without the resources the top teams have. Unai, when he has the time and resources, will show he’s top-level — if he hasn’t already.

“With Villa’s huge fanbase and as long as we don’t become crazy or idiots to break this good atmosphere, we are on the right track to have big success.”

There will be setbacks in terms of results ( e.g. 0-1 Everton in the Carabao Cup) and some missteps as regards fan relationships etc.; but the club is progressing ON and OFF the pitch.

If NSWE give Unai time and resources, then as fans, our part is to respond with patience and support.

I reckon NSWE will be over the moon with him, probably pinching themselves everyday to have landed what at the moment seems a perfect fit

This is incredible. Just what has this man Emery done!!

It's absolutely mental, sorcery even.

A few months in, I asked my uncle (who makes brontebilly look generous in his assessments) what he thought of him. "He's a fucking magician!" was his reply, reckons Unai's the best tactician he's seen at the Villa.

Tricky one.  I agree we need to avoid a MON situation which Emery has quickly built at the club.  He goes, they all go.
However how do the club prevent that without imposing random others into the structure that aren’t natural Emery picks?

I don’t operate at such levels where succession planning is part of the strategy but it seems a tough gig without either pissing people off or having people shadowing role for shadowing’s sake.

How's Unai spending his few days off? Hope he's getting pissed with the wife instead of analysing David Moyes' boring tactics.

Thing is the best way to keep him is to allow him to build it in his own image.  It’s really difficult - because even with secession planning - chances are the next person that comes in see the world differently and wants a different set up.

I trust the owners much more than Lerner - and think they know the risks and pros and cons

He's probably training her to do something.

That's a fascinating insight on Damian Vidagany and everything a few pages back.
I've been reading with much interest and it's very encouraging indeed. Indeed it is!
