By way of an illustration about Emery’s ability to manage "in-game", clearly Kompany had tweaked things at HT yesterday and for the first 10 mins of the 2nd half Burnley caused us a few problems.

But then, either because they ran out of steam, or (more likely) because he'd worked out Kompany's changes and altered a few things positionally and tactically; we regained dominance - Diaby scored our third on the  hour mark and that was pretty well that.

I wonder what his predecessor would have done in the same situation, other than call for more effort?

Totally agree. The way we comfortably controlled the last 15 mins was very impressive, especially as we mainly played in their half.

Since the main man took over.

Another takeaway from that is just how dominant Man City are.  Spend a moment to laugh at Chelsea too.

That's our record under him last season. 55 points from 28 games since he arrived.

I think it’s this calendar year. That’s what I’ve seen it billed as elsewhere.

Now I think about it he must've done more than 25. Looks good though.

I think someone mentioned it earlier, but watching the game yesterday it's easy to just watch the player with the ball. But watch the movement of the players without the ball. For years I've watched other teams do it to us & wondered why we were always so static. It's a thing of beauty.

I remember on the Monday night football, after our defeat to Newcastle, they asked Carragher, Neville & Carney for their top 4 teams. Neville said we would finish top 4. The presenter David Jones & bluenose Carney sniggered.

Come the end of the season, we're going to wipe the grin off their smug faces.

I was trying to explain to my missus and nipper that there's so much to watch with what we do. There's a tiktok reel thingy knocking around the internet of a kindergarten sports day hurdles race tagged "watch a different kid every time", and we're the same. You have to rewatch each moment of a move to be able to fully appreciate all the components.

Manager win percentages:

Ferguson at MU - 59.7
Arsene Wenger at Arsenal - 57.2
Rafa Benítez at Liverpool - 55.4
Carlo Ancelotti at Milán - 55.7
Unai Emery at Villa - 58.1

That is the calibre of manager we have.

Good times are coming back. Mark my words.

It’s pleasing that after the early proclamations of our demise and Newcastle’s ascent we’re now 3 point above them. I have a feeling we’re going to pretty close together at the end of the season.

They've had a tougher run of fixtures than us, to be fair, if you're so inclined. Playing Brighton away this weekend, you'd expect Brighton to have a reaction to their loss, so another tough one there. I'd still expect to be above them going into the international break.

Looking ahead a bit they've got Sheffield Utd and Burnley the weekends we've got Chelsea and Brighton. The table could get a bit tighter over those weeks, for sure.

They have, and it’s not to say they’re terrible or we’re going to sweep all before us but the point is I think we’ll end up battling it out in similar positions.
