It would be nice if the club on Sunday could turn off that dreadful music and general noise in the moments before and after the game, in order for Emery, his staff and players to properly hear the warmth of the crowd's appreciation for their efforts this season.

Stevenage was a one off bad performance and Man U was down to that abysmal goalkeeper. I expect these issues to be fully addressed for next season.

I wonder whether the cup exits have enabled us to stay fit and sharp in the league and opened up the possibility of Europe.Silver linings, and all that.
Aston Villa’s Unai Emery “obsessed” with beating Brighton - John McGinnBy Gregg EvansJohn McGinn says Unai Emery is “obsessed” with beating Brighton & Hove Albion as Aston Villa start preparing for a season-defining finale.Villa’s make-or-break outing on Sunday, May 28 will determine whether the club qualifies for Europe in a season that burst into life following Emery’s arrival.A win guarantees Villa a top-seven finish and a place in the Europa Conference League.Emery has reiterated his desire to return to managing on the continent with Villa after admitting that he misses the midweek fixtures.Captain McGinn knows that the players are in for a busy week as no stone will be left unturned.“There will be hours and hours of watching how we can find their weaknesses so I’m sure we will have plenty of meetings,” he said.“The manager will be obsessed, but I think if you ask any player who has worked with him this year he has been an absolute pleasure.“He’s made myself better, he’s made other players better. The details you’re going into, you’re going into the games with a clear plan.”McGinn has been impressed with Emery’s versatility as well as attention to detail.“He doesn’t just set up with a system that is predictable, he can adapt as well,” he said.“He can change, and we had a couple of changes which spooked Liverpool in the first half (during the 1-1 draw at the weekend).”McGinn says watching Tottenham Hotspur lose to Brentford in the early kick-off gave Villa an edge.“People have different approaches but we had one eye on the scoreline just before and it was a wee bit of a boost for us going into the game knowing Spurs have dropped point,” he added.Another motivating factor was seeing fellow Premier League side West Ham United reach the Europa Conference League final in midweek.“It motivates you because there’s a tint of jealousy,” McGinn continued. “You want to be involved.“The manager has touched on it, he has a lot of experience of European football, I’m sure everyone involved in the club will be so focused this week to make sure that’s a reality.”McGinn, a player in top form, found himself out of the team when former head coach Steven Gerrard was sacked and Emery was about to take over, but since his arrival in November has been a key player.“We’ve given ourselves a huge opportunity and hopefully we take it,” he added. “If you’d said to us back in November you’d be three points away then you’d have laughed.“We have got three points to get to get us back. This club deserves to be in the top 10, we’ve managed to secure that for the first time in a long, long while. Now it’s about building, getting into Europe hopefully and build from there.“It’s exciting for us and the other thing is that players will want to sign and players will want to improve under this manager because they will see where the club is going. It’s such a brilliant place to be at the moment, it’s all so positive.”
