There were mumbles, grumbles and sighs around me. I absolutely understand it, we are conditioned to a certain way of watching but at no point did I think we'd lose. It was rather uneventful, straightforward and routine.

Wonderful.

Grumbles and sighs because it was, in fairness, a frustrating, fragmented, somewhat clodfooted game, with lots of misplaced passes and runs to nowhere. But those happen - and what matters is we somehow forced out a fibrous little victory, and that's that.

Todays victory gives Unai Emery a win percentage of 52.94%.
At this moment in time he is ahead of every previous manager in our history.

Brilliant win percentage stat and I would like him to surpass WJ Smith and Sir Ron with 50% over 300 plus games.

Billy Smith wasn't manager either.

As you will note I didn't say Manager.

In which case he has nothing that can be surpassed and shouldn't be included in a conversation about managers.

We should be very prepared for other clubs to start sniffing around. We need our ambitions to keep pace.

I really don't think he will be going anywhere soon. I'm used to our players being pinched but never experienced it with the manager. Because they've largely all been shit in my lifetime. Strange feeling if it happened.

Unai has made me realise how important a good manager is. Obviously it is important but I mean it probably is the most important thing. More than spending and having a great squad. I'd be happy for our budget and whatnot to be more focused on getting top managers than players after this.

Anyway what I hope we have learned from going from Gerrard to Unai is that whoever the next manager is, you pay what it takes to get a top one. We would have to be looking for the likes of Pochettino, Nagelsmann and that bracket of manager only.

He’s very clearly striving to be better and better every week. He went absolutely ballistic when Buendia lofted a hopeful pass that went straight to a Forest player.

I think you mean head coach rather than managers as that’s a made up inappropriate title.

Yes I noticed that. No resting on laurels.
