It's not that they're not good enough. Martinez and Kamara certainly are. It's that they were too complacent. First, Martinez shouldn't be giving him that ball. Second Kamara has plenty of time to pass it to someone, or if need be, clear it. They just got too cocky.

It's not like we were knocked out of the FA cup in the exact manner a few weeks back....oh.

I think it's more instructions as Dendoncker is certainly not technical enough and you had him treading on the ball.

Also many times we play it back to Emi and he basically waits for the forward to be breathing on him before playing it along the backline.

From what I've seen we don't have the quality of other teams to attempt it everytime yet we seem to go to the most extremes.

That was the worse I have seen Kamara play this season, totally off the pace but he certainly wasn't alone in that aspect!

Saw on the match thread things like 'Emery out-thought by Rodgers'. Really? Did Emery think Kamara into giving it away? Or Moreno turning into a clumsy giraffe for the fourth?

A few things go different ways and all we'd talk about was how much we dominated them today, which we did. We absolutely fucked them but somehow couldn't finish and got all silent movie when they attacked. Positives and negatives. Incredibly frustrating. But maybe let's not go over the top after an annoying league defeat.
That’s my take on it as well. We were by far the better team, and looked really good going forwards. Unfortunately we made a series of defensive mistakes, and our finishing was poor. Emery set is up well, with a good game plan, but there’s no way to account for the largely individual errors. To qualify that slightly I’d say that the relationship between Digne and Mings wasn’t good.

Rodgers correctly identified us as being fairly weak at full back, and once it was clear that Kamara was having a nightmare, Leicester players targeted him constantly. Kamara should have been replaced at half time. He's a fine young player but he was by far the worst player on the pitch. It happens with young players, and he just went from bad to worse.

There is sometimes a need to be pragmatic. Today we were the architects of our own downfall - if it’s not working play By out of the back then maybe knock it on the head.

When we lose it’s not always that we are shit. We made some fatal errors. But fuck me some of our football was lovely and we could have scored 6 on another day. Yes we need improving in a number of areas and better players. But this is not even close to actual shit at the end of Smith or pretty much all of Gerrard.

I think Rodgers did a number on Emery, he identified our weaknesses in our inability to pass out from the back quickly and sprang presses on our midfielders time again.
He cut off the routes of our full backs which meant we kept giving slow ball from our central defenders.

Just fucking hoof it up the pitch ffs.

Sick of this passing it at the back rubbish.

Probably down to statistical analysis that you're .034% more likely to score a goal if you keep possession from a goal kick or something stupid like that and so that's why teams do it.

If you're not Pep's Barca then don't bother.

I think it’s more to do with an increased chance of conceding goals if you give possession away cheaply with a hoof,  but I haven’t seen the stats.

But when we try the tippy tappy shit from the goalie to the central defenders, we either get pressed immediately and then panic and fuck it up, or aimlessly pass it around, before giving it back to Martinez to punt forward anyway. It's utterly shit, and until we have better defenders than Mings and Konsa who are comfortable on the ball, then it's an absolute waste of time, that is actively contributing to us losing games.

I’m no tactician, but I thought it was about drawing the opposition up the pitch, so that there is more space to attack into. A long ball forward when the opposition is set is also much more likely to lose possession like you say.

Emery played exactly this play out from the back with Arsenal when in the Prem.
And at times players were caught out and really disastrously.
Just have to take the rough with the smooth as it's a different style of football the traditional English game is use to.

And its way we Aston Villa are going to play football under Emery

I think Rodgers did a number on Emery, he identified our weaknesses in our inability to pass out from the back quickly and
I could have told him that. "Bren, we're not that good on the ball at the back, we fanny around and lose it; great potential for nicking a goal or four."

Herein lies the paradox: Emery MUST see this in every fucking video of every game we play, or have played in recent times, yet he instructs them to do it anyway.

What's all this bollocks he keeps repeating about "the only objective at the moment is to stay in the Premier League"? We're 10 points clear of the drop, and probably need about 7 points with 17 games left.

Also if that is the objective then losing to teams below you isn’t great.

On top of that if that is the objective it’s a pretty damning indictment of our ambitions. I suspect it’s just waffle, and I’m over thinking because I’m annoyed but bloody hell the end of the January window and losing like that today really feels like the air being let out of the tyres.
