I'm not sure what's more depressing. The loss yesterday or the fact that some Aston Villa fans on this site, after one of the bleakest periods in living memory and a stint in division two, are turning on the best manager we have had in 30 years after he has managed 7 games, including our first home win over our biggest bogey team in almost 30 years, and hasn't yet had a chance to bring in a single player.

Mind boggling.

It would be depressing, if anybody had actually done that.

Turning on the manager? Crikey! Most people are having a chat about his choices and how the team implemented the game plan.

As always there will always be section of fans who aren't keen on the manager and spend time looking for a reason. Seven games in they have found one for this manager.
Two monumental  mistakes turned this game. They were mistakes proffesional footballers at any level should not make, so I won't  be turning on the manager.
Personally I think a season is the minimum  anyone should be judged unless he is an absolute disaster.

I dont think there is any evidence that he is not embarrassed by the result. He'll hate losing games as much as any manager.

He looked crestfallen when the camera panned on him in 95th minute and then quickly legged it down the tunnel in shame.

Couldn't blame him especially as he said pre match winning this cup should be realistic ambition so the worst possible way to go out.

Just have to hope for better next season but this was a wasted chance given how the drawing was opening up for a decent run at least.

I just think it's all a bit OTT - perhaps its just my age and I'm a bit more sanguine, but the word 'humiliation' is a huge insult to Stevenage (who are no footballing mugs), the sly insults of Emery are just childish, and even the revisionist judgement on his selection is laughable - he picked a team with one of the world's most expensive football players, he selected 3 players recently returned from the World Cup, and then there was Luiz, Ings, and Bailey - he didn't pick kids, and as a reminder he didnt buy any of those players.

Yes he could (and should have) selected Martinez. That was a mistake. But he brought Ramsey, Buendia, and Watkins on - and they did fuck all.  So why do people think that had he selected them to begin with, the result would be any different.

The players deserve to be flogged - they have zero excuse. They were arrogant, lazy, slow, dis-interested, and clearly disrespected Stevenage in the process.

That Emery got a tune out of this bunch (at Brighton, Spurs, and against United) is amazing - yesterday just shows how amazing that was. Those results were the exception for this group, not the norm - yesterday was a reminder of that.

Emery needs to be backed - we have had so many charlatan managers (& owners) at this club in the last 30/40 years and finally, we made the right sort of appointment. Yesterday was a fucking disgrace but common sense and logic (in short supply with some fans it seems) reflects the root cause of it.

Players need to be held to account in a loss such as this, I hope a few of the non performers are left on the bench for a good period of time. With the team selected we should have had no problems, it is all down to the players.

It is. But if it posts on here we're all rational, reasonable, realistic, and rounded, we'd all be bored shitless:

I was disappointed he didn't go further with changes before the game in fairness, Kaden Young for example I wanted to see starting, maybe Raiky too, I didn't see the point in playing Luiz. I think where Emery does deserve stick is that this is the first game where he has not tweaked things to improve our play, but it highlighted how poor we are against a low block. The need for a couple of players that have the movement and the ability to play the pass into them is desperately needed. Watkins works hard but produces little of quality. Bailey has no ability to play a final ball. Buendia is very hot and cold.

You see, I totally get people who lose their rag and shout things like 'Fuck off Emery' at the game, it's kind of spontaneous and you're caught up in the emotion of it. Jumping on a forum and typing it out has always seemed a bit odd to me. We've had one poster calling him 'Pinocchio' as well
It's all a bit weird bearing in mind how long he's been here.
