I dont think there is any evidence that he is not embarrassed by the result. He'll hate losing games as much as any manager.
I am sure he does Clampy, however there is no getting away from the fact he has presided over one of this clubs` worst ever results in its long illustrious history - and will be a stain on his CV.
Irrespective of the term of his tenure surely he should have got a better result with the Internationals in his squad compared to the players in a 4th tier team.
He had 90 mins to change the way in which we "competed" and up the tempo by being vocal on the side line or at least turn the heat up during the half time break. There was little or no sign of intervention other than the spell when we scored - others have commented about the lack of leadership on the pitch - Mings/Martinez would have provided that but the manager chose to "rest them" presumably for the Leeds game - again others have mooted that he hasn't taken two cup games seriously in his short period at the club - at what cost? The glory of finishing 10th ?

He's rested players, I can understand why he did. If we had gone though, the team selection wouldn't have even been brought up. He did what virtually every other manager does when playing a lower league side and let's face it, that side should have been more than capable enough to win it.

I understand the frustration, yesterday was a bloody terrible result but I would resist the urge of reading too much into it. We should have won, he did make substitutions - bringing on in theory more first teamers- to kill the game off. But at the end of the day we lost due to two fuck ups. I don’t think his approach suggests he wasn’t taking it seriously yesterday.

Just listened to his post match interview ‘every match gives us information’ I take that as meaning ‘a lot of you won’t be here in February’

Imagine what this thread will be like if after resting players for the Cup we conspire to lose to Leeds on Friday !

That's a good point. The Moscow paradigm. You're paid (well) to make your choices, but if you fuck up the clear priority then you're going to have questions to answer.

I'm fully behind him, by the way, but losing to Stevenage is a great way to undermine your authority if things don't subsequently work out as planned.

I'm not sure what's more depressing. The loss yesterday or the fact that some Aston Villa fans on this site, after one of the bleakest periods in living memory and a stint in division two, are turning on the best manager we have had in 30 years after he has managed 7 games, including our first home win over our biggest bogey team in almost 30 years, and hasn't yet had a chance to bring in a single player.

Mind boggling.

He is arguably the best manager we’ve ever appointed.

It would be depressing, if anybody had actually done that.

think it's mostly having a pop at the players

the manager isn't above criticism but most of the criticism is on the players.

I'd find it more mind boggling if anyone thought criticism over one of the most humiliating results in our 148 year history wasn't warranted.

There's also a massive difference between criticism and turning on him.

And is he fuck the best manager we've had in 30 years. He may go on to be, and we all hope he does, but he's got to get us to the top end of the table and win trophies to earn that accolade.

It's not right to simply say that 'at the end of the day we lost due to two fuck ups.' Those two fuck ups (as you put it) were no more than reflective of the general complacency, lethargy, laziness and misplaced arrogance that characterised the entire performance and, dare I say, team selection, and substitutions.

yes.

Not sure it changes the point I’m making though does it? It was a terrible performance, it still doesn’t mean the manager wasn’t taking it seriously or that we should draw sweeping conclusions into the manager.
