6/7 games in and he’s blotted his copybook, Jesus wept.

He absolutely has.  He's piled so much unnecessary pressure on himself for Friday to get a result.  I've just watched his post match interview and he doesn't even look that bothered about today's shambles

He really hasn’t. Your reaction in terms of the manager specifically are miles over the top.

I think we have right to expect our manager to take the only two competitions we have any chance of having a run at seriously.  Yet in both cup games, he has decided to sabotage both, weeks after claiming he wanted to win a trophy.  What his pedigree in the past is irrelevant - both him and the players have effectively stuck two fingers up to the fans.

He picked a team mainly full of internationals, not a team full of kids. Stop being so melodramatic.

Olsen, not at fault? Apart from the crap pass out to Dendoncker and getting hopelessly beaten at his near post for their second?

He was at fault but not solely to blame.

I didn't say he was, just responding to a post that said he wasn't at fault.

I was agreeing with you.

Good he has realised the players are not good enough.  Now let's see the owners back him with next level investment.

I see Emery finished 7th 3 seasons running with Villareal. How is that viewed over there, above or below their general expectations?

On par more or less:

I’m not blaming Emery, it was Stevenage, we should have been way out in front by half time.

The only player I wouldn’t have left out was Martinez, other than that when I saw the line up I was happy.

I agree. At least Martinez would have been his usual. shithousing self and wound the clock down and more importantly, saved that shot.

I'd expect him to make the players watch every minute of Stevenage's last 15 games so they realise who they've been beaten by. The line Bailey, Dendoncker and Olsen up against the wall for shooting practice with them as the targets (don't let Olly have a go). Then we can go about preparing to beat Leeds on Friday after the punishment beatings.

If the manager is not feeling embarrassed about that result or the manner in which it unraveled he shouldn't be in the job
He picked and set the team up - if the players didn't play to his instructions, fair enough but we keeping hearing how the players need to understand how he wants to play and how this is communicated to them - either they aren`t listening or they played to his format which was totally wrong.
I supposed this what happens when you bring in a coach from overseas who has no experience of playing against well drilled, physical, lower league sides - and I thought he was a "Cup Specialist"

I dont think there is any evidence that he is not embarrassed by the result. He'll hate losing games as much as any manager.

Well apart from his time at Arsenal, and domestic and European ties against weaker opposition while in other countries.

I am sure he does Clampy, however there is no getting away from the fact he has presided over one of this clubs` worst ever results in its long illustrious history - and will be a stain on his CV.
Irrespective of the term of his tenure surely he should have got a better result with the Internationals in his squad compared to the players in a 4th tier team.
He had 90 mins to change the way in which we "competed" and up the tempo by being vocal on the side line or at least turn the heat up during the half time break. There was little or no sign of intervention other than the spell when we scored - others have commented about the lack of leadership on the pitch - Mings/Martinez would have provided that but the manager chose to "rest them" presumably for the Leeds game - again others have mooted that he hasn't taken two cup games seriously in his short period at the club - at what cost? The glory of finishing 10th ?

When we beat Man Yoo we were shown pitchside videos of an Emery master-class of in-game management, every pass tackle and movement was made under the guiding baton of the 'Maestro' (Hello Footy Vill team!) conductor. We all marvelled at our dynamic, polymorphous 'shape' that adapted seamlessly to Tottenham's attacks.  Liverpool took us apart but they are very good and these things happen. I'm just flabbergasted that his conductor's baton was broken for this game.

During the match thread I remember posting 'Sort it out Emery!' while we were leading 1-0. You could see that not 'putting it to bed' was going to end in tears or brown underpants at least.  Which is why I started this thread by talking about selections (to mean team and substitutions, and thus game management) rather than just posting 'Wank', which would have sufficed.

Clearly, some of these wankers are not good enough but I am definitely disappointed in Emery's selections/choices. What a waste of an opportunity!

That is fair comment B.E.
What the fuck was going on? Everybody could see the lack of urgency structure to our play was a problem and the longer we failed to put it to bed then the more likely they would get something. All they did was put more of a press on the last 10 minutes and Bingo.

I think having McGinn playing yesterday might have made a big difference. For all his limitations, he doesn't coast which too many of our lot did.
