It would be nice to have a manager who takes the cup as seriously as the league. Hopefully if we’re not facing an uphill battle in the league next season like he inherited, he may not make so many changes.

Saying that those players who played today should be really ashamed and I hope they don’t sleep tonight.

He's undone nothing as far as I am concerned. I have watched us underachieve for the past 25 years and I look at his Cv and drool. Our players, none of whom he signed btw, went out and bottled it against a lower league team at home. It's on them, not him.

If Emery doesn't get time at villa I guarantee we won't be getting in anybody with a better CV. We have to stick with this through thick and thin if we want to end the drought.

I agree with your second part. We were lucky to get him bearing in mind who he has managed in recent years. Doesn't negate the fact that today is one of the most embarassing results in our history and unfortunately, he has presided over it. Sadly, this game will likely be remembered more than the win over Yanited on his debut.

That’s twice is his first 6 games we’ve conceded from the keeper passing to a player near the box with his back to the opposition. I like Emery and think he’ll do a great job, but maybe let’s knock that part of the distribution on the head. It basically offers very little value and clearly presents an unnecessary risk.

I prefer to focus on the fact he got us 10 points from a run of five games that reads: Man United (h), Brighton (a), Liverpool (h), Spurs (a), Wolves (h).

He has and I fully support him. But the two things are not mutually exclusive - you can look to play out of the back and get all the benefits, and still eradicate this particular problem.

That doesn't wash with me. We're 11th, and in no real danger of relegation. He's utterly ballsed up both cup competitions this season, for no good reason. I don't care what he did with Sevilla last decade, either.

Unai Emery: "Yes, I'm really shocked. The mistake was a big mistake. The last five minutes we didn't control our mind. It's a message, we have to learn and improve. We can't think we are better, we are Aston Villa. I'm upset, sorry with our supporters. Each match gives us information."
OK Unai what about selecting the first team and sending them out with the right message that today was the most important game of their season and they  must win it?

Tonight isn't on Emery. The team he put out should've absolutely twatted Stevenage. The fact they didn't will tell him more about the squad he's inherited than any training session.

Is he saying he isn’t responsible? Of course the manager takes responsibility when it goes wrong.

Jesus.  He played Olsen.   Like in the LC.

Everybody playing today was meant to be desperate to be picked as First team and they should have done rather better than push the ball desultorily between each other for most of the first half.

I don’t see the issue with Emery as much as I am completely bewildered by the lack of urgency and execution shown by our internationals and others selected to play this match. They moved through treacle until some subs came on. Not much better after then.

I was left hoping that Emery can get some new players this window and that several of our squad who featured today, get moved on.

Yes I think the one genuine selection error was Olsen.

The manager always takes the blame for results but the team he picked should’ve turned them over by quite a few. The type of goals we’ve been giving away for a few seasons now shows more about them than  Emery who’s only been here for 5 minutes. If I was him I wouldn’t hang about waiting for them to do the same to me. Some diabolical and unforgivable performances today.

Likely True but in the main the selection was ok. You cannot play the same 11 every week, you simply can’t. The team selected should have won, but they were complacent and slow.
