Playing out from the back is our weakness, so why so many backward balls
Their goal yesterday came from a throw in that was taken 10yds into our own half that went backwards and ended up with the goalie, why ?

Just throw the ball forwards into their Half and try and find a villa player
Same with all the back passes, why ?
it just puts pressure on players who struggle to move the ball forward objectively, they end up losing it or lumping it forward, it’s painful to watch,
it’s basically self harming on a football pitch

sometimes it’s the only option to play the ball backwards but not all the time
every time we go back needlessly it creates panic yet they still keep doing it

The launches forward just give the ball straight back for them to pin us under pressure. We've got to learn to do this and be brave enough to do it if we're ever going to compete higher up.

I noticed Emery praising Doug after the game as underlining this, mistakes will happen but it will pay off.

The playing out from the back is a deliberate tactic.  Most teams do the high press thing now - beat that press, as in don't fucking lose the ball 20 years from your own goal, and there is loads more space for the likes of Ramsay and Bailey to drive into.  I think we bought Carlos to be the main ball playing centre half and one of Mings / Konsa (or both) were seen as being surplus.  I'll be surprised if we don't buy a centre half and (to a slightly lesser degree because they're so difficult to get) a centre forward in January.   The midfield, with a fit Kamara in it alongside Luiz and JJ, is just starting to look the part.

So you want Steve Bruce as manager to stop all that playing football nonsense?

I'm happy with playing out from the back and happy for the team to take risks.
The reward is far greater than fizzing the ball forward and giving up possession time and again.
To mix it with better sides we need more of the ball and that means being brave and confident in our play.
It won't work every time but we'll improve under this manager if we play this way.

Exactly this. Brave new world and us and players need to get used to it. 6 weeks now till the next game should help.

Quote from the boss after the game

“Hard workers, focused and committed. Proud of the players and proud of our loyal fans. What an amazing feeling! Much more to do, much more to improve”

The first words of his after match mid afternoon interview yesterday.   In perfect pronunciation “Good evening” said with wry smile. I guess all those who take the piss missed the gag. Got to love the guy.

Same
So why keep passing the ball back to non-ball playing centre halves from midfield

Well that’s not what I’m saying
I’m saying why do we go backwards too often from midfield positions to put pressure on the defence who struggle to move the ball forward and often end up lumping it up

I am against Lumping it up that’s why I don’t want midfield to keep passing the fucking ball back to them

Im very very far from a tactician but i think its to draw the opposition forwards and midfield towards us to create space. But your right at the moment the axis of Martinez, Mings and Konsa look uncomfortable with it. I think though we’ve complained slippy G didnt seem to train the players to any great effect, so we have to give Emery a chance to drill want he wants from our current back line, to improve what we have and then if he feels he needs to, bring others in as he goes along.

He’s a coach mate, A good one but he can’t turn water into wine
Our play around the midfield is to negative the ball goes back to often, and I keep saying this to non-ballplaying centre halves
They then panic and lump it forward more often than not

I judge every player on how comfortable he is with the ball on his touch and his technical ability, every player no matter what their position
That’s why a few seasons ago when everyone on here was saying Konsa was going to be the next England centre half for a decade I was saying no he’s not good enough with the ball,
Like Mings he should defend and then give it to someone who can play a bit like John Terry used to
In fairness to Konsa he generally doesn’t try to do things he’s not capable of so he just turns and passes back to the goalkeeper most of the time
