I would imagine there are a lot of Guardian readers in Brighton. *shakes head sadly*

Brighton fans tonight are mostly bitter and totally twisted. They really need a reality check about their place in the food chain.

I’d hate to have to watch villa play every week , going on today’s performance. Constant time wasting, feigning injury and cynical fouling. The last team that did that at the Amex was Wolves. Must be something they are taught in the Midlands.

Nailed on penalty not give to the Albion , fortunately Villa will not get that good fortune every week and will slip back down to the relegation zone soon.

In Emery, we have a manager worthy of the Villa for the first time in absolutely bloody ages. Wide experience of different countries and cultures, winner of trophies, a shrewd tactician, with the ability to influence games from the touchline, intelligent use of subs, etc.

If he gets the right backing... Well, you never know, but things could potentially get pant-wettingly exciting.

Weirdly, I'm going to enjoy the World Cup a bit more thanks to today's win. Emery has restored my enthusiasm for football a bit, cos the last bloke made it all a bit depressing somehow. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season.

All their complaining makes the win so much sweeter.

Playing ugly and winning will do for now. More to come from UE and the team for sure.

While dishing out a good 3+ goal tonking always feels great, there's also something deeply satisfying about a narrow victory that leaves the opposition whining for days. Even better with this one, they've got wait over a month to get today out their system.

I'm away for the week with Mrs Edge and my only contact with todays game was a BBC update which I only got once we arrived in sunny Fuerteventura. I overheard someone say we were 1-0 down right before take off. Ruined the next 4 hours in the air for me. I punched the air when I got the update after we landed. I've only got this site to follow for the proceedings but I must say I'm absolutely buzzing. Sounds like we got away with one for their penalty appeal but so what? That shit happens to us all outside the sky six and it was our turn this week. I've got a really good feeling about Unai Emery.

OK people stop this fawning over Unai's first week. He did well against  manu at home and today. Got it badly wrong on Thursday. Let's see how things are towards end of Feb.

Not really. The difference between now and the end of Gerrard's time is massive. And Unai is a proven, quality manager. I will continue to fawn.
