The smile on Sansom’s face says it all.
I think we'll be seeing more of Mr Sanson!

And I always think football managers/coaches fail to exploit the advantage of having substitutes at their disposal. Playing a pressing game like we did today is hard work and the players will inevitably tire.....guess what? You can take a tired player off and bring a fresh one on! Or even all five!

Rocket science it ain't!

Probably a terrible mistake, but I'm beginning to get very, very excited.

Gerrard won 4 of his first 6 games? I'm not sure we ever had the level of control in those wins that we had smashing these today. Consistency is a challenge, most of these players disgraced themselves in their last two away days so I'm looking forward to seeing what Emery does away from home.

I think a key point here is we were facing a Manure side who were really in form. We won and controlled the game against them, that’s impressive.

Just watched highlights and noticed that Unai turned to the bench to shake hands will all the subs when we scored. Only a little thing, but I feel like that's the sort of thing you do to keep a squad, even those who will have been disappointed not to start, happy. Remind everyone that they're involved and part of it. Very different from the likes of Gerrard, who seemed to go out of his way to annoy players, Lambert, with his "bomb squad" nonsense and O'Neill, who thought the bench was just there for the coaching staff to sit on. Long may it last.

Wow, the opening win under Gerrard was a good one but today was probably beyond anyone's expectations as a debut. 3 great goals, a win against an in form team we haven't beaten at home in a fucking aeon.

Gerrard was a bad decision for sure, but it almost feels like he was never here

The thought of having a manager who knows how to utilize substitutes feels very strange to me.

Thank god!

I'm still sad it didn't work out with Gerrard, because we all want every one of our managers to be a success, but his failure means we now have Emery, so I'm grateful for that.

As others have said, it just feels right. Today he looked like he was enjoying himself, but not feeling any sense of pressure from the magnitude of the job. He managed to balance a sense of humility with strutting about like he owned the place.

I also absolutely loved the way he high-fived the whole bench after the first goal. That's man-management! He's their friend, but his self-confidence and ability to back it up with a performance and result (on the day) shows he's not beholden to them. He's one of them, but also leaves no doubt as to who is in charge.

I think he's already my second favourite manager in my time as a supporter, after HWWOW. I love the bloke.

The one disappointment I have is that we are leaving a possible emerging future star to stagnate. Ings did little or nothing when he came on, the crowd would have re-acted very positively to Cam coming on. I don't know whether he will fullfil the promise but at least give him the chance.

He will, Robbo, but when you're 3-1 up with a few minutes left, throwing on a player who (in the mind of the opposition) is a 'prolific' goalscorer is a great way to ensure that they keep a few men back to cover him, and therefore maintain a defensive mindset.

What a way to start. I mean, incredible. Start your villa management career by ending the 27 year hoodoo that lot have over us?
Has there been a better start to a villa managerial career?
The closest I can remember was O Neill's first game where we were very unlucky not to beat Arsenal in their first Emirates match. We've certainly outdone that.
Before that, Gregory 2-1 against Liverpool. Collymore scoring 2

Big Ron at Hillsborough
The best away day in England for Villa!

For anyone who wasn't at Everton in 1990.

I was at both and it's a tough call

I too was at both and it's like choosing a favourite child.

Both beautiful Summer days, took thousands and while Everton was an end of season celebration of a wonderful year and gratitude for SGT era, Sheff Weds was a tense, atmospheric day that that started the BFR era, that day just got better as it wore on.

Just so lucky and privileged to have been there.
