The Peaky Blinders bit was just referencing something Emery said himself when he was at Arsenal. It was just a bit of a light-hearted "and finally..." type question, nothing to get too precious about in my opinion.

Correct opinion.

It might sound a bit daft but I'm getting Big Ron types of excitement and expectation with this.

Unai Emery is called  el maestro
Please can this be added to the title thread.
He's major on details.
A real student and master of the game.

Couple of reviews of the Book El maestro
Exciting.

Apparently Juan Mata said he lost count of number of set piece ideas they had and that he will be very specific to the weakness of each opposition team.

From that book:

He can also effect tactical change mid-game

Finally, we have a manager who does deep tactical thought.

Although I reckon most of our squad probably struggled to change the time on their watches last week, let alone change tactics.

The way premier league players have it all with their own personal chefs and player liaison I imagine someone does it for them!  Those types of players Emery will get out the door as well as any who don't fit the system but I feel he is someone who will first and foremost take out characters who aren't showing required level of thought to improvement and attitude.
As much as it's about abilities and Emery strategy.
It's great and exciting times to have a manager who knows what he wants from his players in all aspects.
Not simply this hard work mantra.

Home win against Man Utd tomorrow, and the FA Cup next summer and he can stay for life!

Yes although I’d suggest 5th (which Arsenal haven’t yet bettered since) and a European final is probably good enough for Villa. Notwithstanding a fact that Arsenal were a basket case and the time and a vast majority of those players referenced have been booted out of Arsenal now.

I think was more they had a late season collapse that time, missing out on a CL spot. Winning the former Uefa cup would have given them CL football too? CL football would have bought him a bit more time. As we have seen with previous coaches, poor performance at season end can cause a bit of a hangover into the next season. Arguably Arteta was given a lot more patience in his rocky patches and they spectacularly blew a CL place only a few months ago in similar circumstances.

Emery made a mess of the captaincy situation there too, with likes of Xhaka getting booed off by his fans and Ozil causing trouble. To be honest, I just hope Mings is captain on Sunday and that's the end of our captain issues for this season.

What I like about Emery is that he hasn't let that relative failure define him. He went back to Spain and improved Villareal bringing European football and more trophies. Didn't go for the Newcastle gig when offered it but had the balls to take on our job (when the likes of Poch dodged it).

The article below gives additional insight into his training methods. Sounds like the emphasis is on serious, and training will be longer than Gerrard's and less 'fun' than Deano's. Some players will step up and take the chance the improve under him whilst others won't be able to hack it, and we may be surprised which players end up in the latter camp. Looking forward to it and I'll happily take a few seasons of organised and even dull football if it gets results. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11389837/Unai-Emerys-workaholic-personality-fierce-demands-catapult-Aston-Villa-table.html

Didn't he say in his presser that he won't be messing with the captaincy for now?

I'm waiting for the presser on facebook and the sheer amount of fucking morons posting 'good ebening' as if it's either clever, funny or original is fucking embarrassing, bunch of thick cu*ts.
You would imagine that folk from Birmingham, or the West Midlands in general, would be a little more empathetic to folk taking the piss out of someone’s accent. (Saying that as someone who has definitely been in that situation due to a rather pronounced accent myself)

Although I did read “ and finally “ in a Trevor McDonald voice.

I'm really enjoying all this positivity about us having a real World Class Manager and patting ourselves on the back. Dreading us playing tomorrow and it all come crashing down.
