Yes although I’d suggest 5th (which Arsenal haven’t yet bettered since) and a European final is probably good enough for Villa. Notwithstanding a fact that Arsenal were a basket case and the time and a vast majority of those players referenced have been booted out of Arsenal now.

I've just read this on the Sky website:

'Emery was sacked after just 18 months in the role "due to results and performances not being at the level required", according to a club statement. On the playing side, it is understood Arsenal players had lost faith in Emery and his methods, while his communication was a big issue.30 Nov 2019'

As I said previously don't tell me show me. I'll be delighted if he proves to be as good as some hope. Until I see some evidence I'll refrain from letting hope get the better of experience.

There is a tonne of evidence to support his success both since that dismissal at Villareal and in his career before he joined Arsenal.
Having said that, can see the view to proceed with caution when assessing the level of success he can achieve. He has had a chequered past when at Arsenal, but many believe his overall record as a manager speaks for itself. I in that view myself but hear yours and others who want to wait and see.

Definitely agree in that he needs to demonstrate to us all his abilities, both with the squad that is currently in place and when his ideas are put into action throughout his time and progressing the playing style and squad. Although it may take some time for the entire nature to change, many people believe he is a manager who will have an immediate impact because it is in his nature. And I think he will make that impact this week in all 3 games.

I think it's great for him and coaching team to have 3 matches in 7 days in many respects.

He followed Wenger. The Arsenal fans were already bitter because the last few years of Wenger they slipped further behind the top sides. Here comes a bloke from another country with a “funny” accent that became the target of their anger while they finished in the position you mentioned and a cup final. All that it proved is the club culture needed fixing and the fans were colossal entitled wankers.

I reckon our middle aged women/older type support are drooling  over him in the same way they fancied Julio Ingelias back in the 80's. I've already decided to play Begin the Begin on the jukebox if we win on Sunday.

It's a great appointment, the best we've had in years. Really happy he's here.

Still got a feeling of impending doom, though. Maybe it's just me being a miserable bastard.

Well pick the negative within all the positives of his career, there is glass half empty and glass never poured, jesus

You get one question at the press conference and your journalistic mindset drives you to ask “did you watch Peaky Blinders?” FFS.

Was expecting one of them to ask him about that.  I notice the microphone picked up Purslow making a sly little dig about the Brummie accent.

Maybe his record at Arsenal wasn’t as bad as made out but it certainly wasn’t successful and it didn’t work out he failed and that’s the end of it
So let’s just accept that, hopefully he’s lot better manager because of the experience

everything he has done since has been very successful, he’s won a ton of silverware mostly against the odds and is now highly rated across Europe
And that’s where we are we have a top experienced European manager who has a few black marks but a lot more ticks against his name

Managers need to go through dark times to grow and learn and become better
It looks as though he has

If Purslow was as smart as he thinks he is we wouldn’t be where we are in the table. Anybody with a bit a bit more about them wouldn’t have had a pop at our accents. He made a bit of a show of himself there as he did with Gerard’s appointment and the owners having to sideline him with more recent decisions. He might need a little talk with himself, if not he’ll be out of the club.

The majority of Arsenal perspectives are ones I wouldn’t place much stock in although it’s undoubtedly true he wouldn’t be at Villa now without their turning on him. I do wonder if there might be a concern from some of their supporters that they’ll have another Martinez situation on their hands. After all, it was Emery that wanted to get rid of the big named players that Arteta was finally given the green light by the club to eject. And it was Emery that blooded a number of youth players that Arteta has had the benefit of reaping the benefits of.

I’ve always found the treatment of Wenger by some of their supporters to be a disgrace. A real sense of entitlement only provided because of his time in charge. Relatively speaking to their competitors, he didn’t spend all that much on players - something that seems missed by many of their supporters.

Not the brightest of moves but then again, in keeping with not very bright moves he’s been making over the past year and more.

Suspect he's being watched by NSWE.  He's made a complete balls up with his vanity appointment of Gerrard and basically wasted a whole year.  Needs to keep his nose clean.  Making clever comments about how the locals talk isn't a very good start, bearing in mind how pissed off the fans are with him.  Imagine the furore if Ellis had done that.

The Peaky Blinders bit was just referencing something Emery said himself when he was at Arsenal. It was just a bit of a light-hearted "and finally..." type question, nothing to get too precious about in my opinion.

It might sound a bit daft but I'm getting Big Ron types of excitement and expectation with this.
