Obviously I'm biased because I'm now in love with the man, but I don't understand the mockery of his accent. He sounds no more 'comedic' than Guardiola, Klopp or, for that matter, Lampard.

I despise it. And I’ve called out some Villa fans on Twitter who thought it would be funny to do the same. It’s wasn’t clever when Arsenal fans and others took the piss when he was last in England. It’s frankly pathetic that anyone would mock his accent. A man who actually speaks 4 or 5 languages.

Agreed, and I'd wager his standard of English is better than that of most of our British players. He strikes me as very articulate, he doesn't struggle for words, he just has an accent.

Well we all have one of them and we are used to the National pisstaking so I’m sure he’ll fit right in!

I was impressed with the interview and the way he came across, he struck me as a warm, likable individual which will certainly help given the rumored unpopularity of the last incumbent.

One advantage of having English as a second language is the lack of stock cliches trotted out time after time which become annoying after yet another loss and rank bad performance.

Best of luck Unai, listening to you, you are just what our football club needs.

Hopefully during your management of the team, you will bring us the success that we all crave. (including winning the FA Cup)

A great first interview. He’s analysed the players quickly and I imagine with the way he comes across he’s got the players on board quickly too. Exciting times ahead for Aston Villa!

He seems a lovely man.

It's the enthusiasm and passion and stress on words when speaking that I love.

Up the fucking Villa, Unai!

He does give off more of a SGT vibe rather than Saunders, doesn't he? I think that's a good thing as it's more in keeping with what modern footballers are more likely to react positively to. The last fella seemed to be in the MON mould, standoffish and playing favourites.

He did continually say , Listen ..that was a step up to start with

Interesting the change in , him speaking to owners and the OS reporter asking about talking to Owners with no name checking of Purslow as was the case with Gerrard and Smith.

Spanish people (as I think RCF mentioned) have a hard time pronouncing other languages. For instance who's that guy on the Totally Football podcast, Alvaro Romeo I think, speaks grammatically and syntactically immaculate English, but couldn't sound more Spanish if he tried.

Old World Spanish just has this insanely specific set of sounds, so just adapting to moving your mouth in any other way must be really hard - I mean it's hard enough going the other way, my Spanish will only ever sound like the 'doss servayzas poor favour' thing.

My wife was taking Spannish clases around 20 years ago. She attempted to use it in a taxi in Gran Canaria one night and the guy just burst out laughing at her attempt.
