No goals, zero win ratio, Emery out

Still unbeaten.

Probably the most exciting managerial appointment at Villa since O'Neill.

Very happy with this - at last someone who has done it and isn't 'the next up and coming blah blah not done it'. It also means that the owners back themselves to stick up for him - we all know he can succeed so any pitfalls might well be in the owners camp. Looking forward to this a lot - feels BFR to me.

Doesn't take a lot to achieve this C=  European experience, Premier League experience (even if not a particularly happy one) and turend down Newcastle so he could get a top job...I'm chuffed.

C'mon Jon, the great hairline was all Gerrard had left! Show some restraint.

The weird thing is that we were first linked with him back in March/ April time, there were a couple of stories saying if Gerrard didn't improve form he was a target in the summer. Can't find them now, but makes me think the club isn't as watertight as we think.

That's weird. Exactly the same as the Smith/Gerrard changeover.

Unai's is probably best categorised as the Johnny Haynes of modern day managers. It's a good head of hair but John Gregory remains the doyen when it comes to Villa bosses' barnets.

Unai's hair reminds me a bit of Robbie Fowler's.

I said that a couple of pages ago. He does look like him

That has a slight whiff of damning him with faint praise. :)

I feel sorry for Sunak - having his big day over shadowed by Unai

Hopefully Unai outlasts him too!

There was a fair bit of excitement around the place when Tommy Docherty rocked up in 1968 as those of my vintage will attest.  I'm fairly sure that Unai will have more success than the Doc though.

Says he told the Villarreal hierarchy of his decision last Friday.

So Amorim or Frank etc must have been a contingency at most.

Aston Villa: Why Unai Emery has returned to Premier League

Guilem  Balague on the BBC Sport website

Great article by very well respected Journalist
Great read thanks for posting. This has really got my juices flowing. I see he was advised by an agent by the name of Jorge Mendes. I know he's Portuguese but is that the same bloke that has pulled all the strings at Wolves in recent years?
