We can argue the toss about what's more important but as other posters have pointed out, competing at the higher end of the table and qualifying for the Champions League would increase the chances of winning something as we'd be able to buy better players.

It is quite funny that having Champions League football would make us more attractive to players, but they'd also have to possibly play away to Mansfield Town on a wet Tuesday night in late October.

Spurs have disproved this theory time and time again.

But seriously  agree with you. Consistent better teams win stuff.

Spurs are the exception to the rule, I bet if you look at the domestic trophy winners in the last twenty years there's less than a handful won by teams not playing in the Champions League at the time.

It's shit but that's the way it is.

I've just had look at the draw for Round 4. The ties are being  played week commencing 30th October. Had we gone through, that would have made it four games in the space of ten days .Alkamaar, Luton, Cup game and Forest, with another European game after Forest.

I was willing us to get the equaliser and take it to penalties the other night as much as anybody but looking at that, not having that extra game will be a massive help.

If thats a positive, then why did we bother qualifying for European football?

One less game per week would keep us fresh for the weekend, & all that jazz...

On the flip side, if the squad wasn't unbalanced & they filled the roles we are short in, or kept a youngster or two who could compete against the likes of Championship standard Everton or League 1 standard Legia Warsaw, then these extra games would be what they actually are.

Chances at giving decent quality squad options the games they need to keep them happy in the squad, along with a chance at ending our trophy drought...

"Unai Emery has earned 61 points from his first 31 Premier League games in charge of Aston Villa, the same number that Pep Guardiola managed in his first 31 Premier League games in charge of Manchester City."

A pretty impressive stat copied from twitter.

None of us can complain about that surely?

Weirdly, two of them that did, Wigan and Blose (FA Cup in 2013 and Milk/CocaCola Cup in 2010), both got relegated the same season!

To be honest I don't give that much of a shit about going out tonight.

Would be nice to have a decent run but we're in four competitions and the squad simply isn't big enough to go full pelt in all of them. I get the point that the manner of the defeat is really disappointing though.

The team was good enough to win even though it was weakened so that's on the players, for me.

We're about 10 metres into a marathon we are well placed in so I'm not going to overreact. We're going to have a great season. We'll win on Saturday as well BTW.

Yeah, I'd love a trophy but you know what? We have won the League Cup 5 times and twice in the past 28 years. It's a shocker that we haven't played in the CL since it was revamped from the European cup in the early 90s.

Finishing top 4, for me, actually would be a huge statement because we have gone too long not playing in the premier European football competition.

Everyone get in here and worship him.

Bow down and worship our glorious manager.

Criticised in the week and people saying we haven't had a good game all season and he gives us that.

UNAI I LOVE YOU.
