After watching him play for about 20 minutes it’s clear Duran is already more of a striker alternative for Watkins than Ings ever was or could be.

He's younger and quicker, certainly. Let's see how he gets on sticking the ball in the net first though. Any of our other youth team players are younger and quicker than Ings, but there's more to being a Premier League footballer than that.

The Stevenage game wasn't on Ings though, it was a dog's arse of a team that got the sort of result it deserved when you play somebody as shit as Olsen. Emery didn't even have the excuse that he needed to see how piss poor Olsen was, because he'd already shown that in spades against Man U.

It was Stevenage. League Two Stevenage vs PL Aston Villa. At Villa Park. There was plenty of first teamers playing that it shouldn't have mattered that Olsen was playing. We should have battered them by at least the score Stoke got against them.

It was Villa piss poor Villa in the cup
As obvious as it seems on paper, no risks should ever be taken with Villa in the cup if you want to progress
Another season without cup runs because what should’ve happened didn’t happen because you can’t play inferior players and expect a result especially at Villa history tells us that

Yep. Pat Mustard that’s an astonishing statement.

Yes and I hope Duran goes onto be a superstar, but there are plenty of young players who show promise and disappear into obscurity. Ings’ ability to score goals shouldn’t be dismissed, lots of people can’t do it.

Villa appear to have struck up a rhythm under Emery despite successive defeats. Long meetings, often containing granular detail, have become a staple under the manager who succeeded Steven Gerrard in November.

“Nothing gets missed. One example maybe is if we concede a goal, we’re going all the way back [via video analysis] to where the problem may have arose. It could be a three-minute spell of us winning the ball and losing it again, winning it back and losing it again; getting a throw-in, giving it back to them and them then beating our press. Eventually it is a kind of butterfly effect that ends up in us conceding a goal because we’ve given away three corners on the bounce or we haven’t cleared it properly. It is easy to hold people’s focus in a long meeting when everything you’re saying has a purpose.”

That sort of analysis is all very well but what about “Look me in the eye” and “Roll your sleeves up and go again”?

Oh those classics haha!
Emery, by his own culture, has a very strong awareness in personal honour.
So perhaps he expects players to have that same attitude so he can get on with the football briefings and coaching.
It's also apparent how much he seems to be teaching and developing players which is only a good thing for pro footballers.

Never knew where Gerrard, McAllister and Crtitchely were with that in being able to coach and communicate effectively. Gerrard just seemed to talk about levels of agression. Like being passive or competitive.

If Watkins doesn’t get injured for any significant amount of time, then the decision to sell Ings works perfectly. Cashing in on him and clearing the path for Duran to get more minutes to show what he can do.

Watch him get crocked today, now I’ve said this…

Ings averages a goal or assist nearly every 2 games, over a span of nearly 200 Prem games.

Duran has had a couple of lively cameos, let's not get carried away!

But about 1 in 4 for us... Which is all I care about.

I've been on 'training' courses where it has been suggested that red ink is too blood-like and 'violent' for our cherubs to take. This has led me to consider using real blood. FFS!

Fucking hell, mate :D

There's been a few times living out in this part of the world where I've written someone's name in red ink, and received a bollocking :D
