I'd love to think that was true. Pepe has clearly been a big waste of money - £72m in 2019 was utterly bonkers.

There are some fairly clear cut direct quotes from Emery to be fair.

"I was in favour of someone coming who knew the English league, more than anything so that he wouldn't need a period of adaptation. I had a meeting with Zaha, the Palace player. He was the player I wanted because I could see that he won so many games on his own.

"I saw 20 Zaha games, some incredible performances and I told them that this is the player that I want for this team. I spoke to Zaha. I had been with him personally. And he wanted to come. But the club decided that Pepe was younger, he was one for the future. I said. 'yes, but we need to win now and this lad [Zaha] wins games'. He did it to us!"

That's good to read. Sliding doors and all that. They sign Zaha in 2019, and he hits the ground running and shows the form he's shown in the last year or so, and Unai might not have got sacked in the November, and he might not be here now.

Does that mean a fee was agreed with Palace? Hard to tell with modern football. If an agent has a super player and a willing buyer he gets all greedy and negotiates his client's terms before the club who hold the player's registration have had anything to say on the matter...

Interesting that he's looking to get a technical director in to either replace Lange or to be his superior.

Beat Leicester and after 8 games Emery will have won us more points than we got in 38 games in 2015/16.

He’s making the most out of what he has. He’s only got one signing playing right now so it’s massively impressive what we’ve done since he came to the club. He needs to be supported now on and off the pitch. What we are seeing isn’t some fluke.

The commentator on my feed was saying when the game was at 0-0 that it would have been Emery’s first 0-0 in Fifty something Prem games. 15 seconds later Watkins scores.

His villa career has only been brief so far though.
