I sometimes wonder whether Villa fans would rather have a close and chummy relationship with those who run the club than a management team that is utterly ruthless and single-minded about bringing success.  Maybe because we've been starved of success for so long a cosy, unambitious, fan-focused club seems more desirable or attainable.

I don't think we've got over Doug and his hands-on, Villa supporters in every job, paternalistic way of talking to us approach.

That’s what has me asking the question. The 3 signings when Grealish left. They seemed a bit off piste from what the plan was meant to be. The Ings signing had me wondering and still has. A panic buy along with the 2 at the end of the summer window this year. I’m not saying it has changed but signings like those didn’t really fit the plan.

Terrific article sir. Though it does make me sad, as the truth sometimes does.

Very good. It does really bug me that Newcastle got it so right.

I'm convinced Newcastle are one news headline away from disaster. If you play with fire, you tend to get burned!!

As for villa, we still have very rich legitimate owners who can afford to pay top wages for a top manager. Money talks. We still have many quality players who for one reason or another, have under performed. We have the finance to bolster the squad, ambitious owners, top facilities, great fan base, great stadium, great name.

Like Dave, I am not angry. Just disappointed we wasted a year or so on an experiment. I am excited though, we are one good appointment away from making proper progress. The foundation is still there, now build on it.

Guess the subject...

Good observation Dave.  Even when we knew Dean wasn’t up to taking us to the next level  he still never lost the connection with the fans but we knew he had to go.  What is hard to take is what they replaced him with because I’m pretty sure he would would have made a better job than Gerrard has done the last 12 months

Pretty much sums it up for how I feel. An awful last 12 months in so many ways.
