What a load of fucking bollocks. Country on the brink of a recession and they're going to cost the country billions more by cancelling a load of stuff that really doesn't need cancelling. 'As a mark of respect' my arse. What's disrepsctful about the country going about its business. Just about every shop and other business is still open.

Indeed, how is an empty stadium, people losing a day of work, unused train tickets, all of that, how is it any more respectful than stadiums full of people belting out the national anthem?

The country is an economic mess right now, we can't afford to do this sort of thing

I also read that the week after likely to be off too.

I would imagine HRH would have wanted for everything to just carry on and not have cancellations because of her death

There will be people right on the edge at the moment, a weekends lost income could potentially see them jumping in front of a train. Nevermind eh!

Apparently it was the leagues decision, twats.

From the BBC:

The league's chief executive Richard Masters said: "We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty's long and unwavering service to our country.”

The government's national mourning guidance advised that cancelling fixtures was not obligatory, leaving the decision up to individual sports.

Costing the proles money and not giving a toss - actually it's the perfect tribute.

Isn't Masters Villa? Maybe he hates Gerrard and wants as much new manager bounce as poss.

I think that there’s been a suggestion that there might have been an issue with availability of sufficient police for matches, although I struggle to see that myself.

It really does not make any sense.
I can not imagine it was in her wishes.
I absolutely believe that there should be a day of Official Mourning, the day of her funeral but just stopping everything serves no purpose.

Are they postponing the Horse Racing?

Tomorrow and moving the big races due to go off at Doncaster to Sunday, when no football will be played.

This has nothing to do with showing respect and everything to do with the fear of being accused of not showing respect. Everyone I have spoken to, Royalist or otherwise strongly disagree with this decision.

If ever there was a woman to get on with it, it was her

What a missed opportunity to have people come together to celebrate her life at a football match etc
