He only plays well against the top teams. Funny fella, even takes corners differently to everyone else who ever lived apart from Stephen Staunton.

you don't really have to be good to be Villa's best no 8.

I get this is mostly a dig at mostly at McGinn, but Champions League player Sanson never managed it.  Ramsey was exciting last season, so it's a bit harsh on him too.  Luiz is a very good player, as we will see next season when he's in the top 4 with Arsenal.

He and Bednarek both looked like last minute panic buys to me

Coady couldn't get in Wolves team but has improved Everton a lot. Granted a short cameo but considering the ease Bamford ran past him I wouldn't like to see Bednarek up against a quick forward. Eventually when we switch to 4231 Dendonker will become an option.

Don't think there is any doubt on that. We were linked with good midfielders all summer and most of the previous transfer window as well. Bissouma, the Italian that ended up at Spurs, etc etc. Gerrard himself repeatedly stated we were after another midfielder as well. I can't believe that man was Dedoncker, we must have missed out on our targets and decided we needed a body in case of injuries.

Bednerek was only signed due to Hause being sold and needing a new 4th choice centre back.

Not that I think Dedoncker can't be an asset. Indeed I am somewhat perplexed that neither he, Nakamba or Sanson have any game time yet despite Kamara being injured.

I'm not sure about panic buys. Bederak is only a loan and we may well need Dendoncker at some point. It would have been chaos on here had we signed nobody.

Neither is a panic buy, I’d say they’re more pragmatic.

The biggest problem with Dendonker type signings is the wages they eat up and congestion they cause to youth players coming through. They’re kinda justified in a “what if” scenarios but personally I’d have sweated the assets we already have (Sanson and Nakamba) and leave space for a £50m player in one of the next windows.

Arguably we’ve taken the sweating the asset approach to strikers so fingers crossed the £50m player is incoming soon.

The worry for me is that both Dendoncker and Bednarek look like plodders. In a team that's never going to win the 4 x 400m relay race any time soon, that's a bit of a concern.

It’s just squad filling when we allready have or had players in those positions.
The philosophy of buying players that improve the team has been chucked out the window along with other ideas like youth development.
