Watkins.

Doesn't really matter though when we barely create a clear cut chance.

Did we actually create anything other than a couple of speculative Coutinho 20-25 yard efforts?

Watkins with 3 attacking midfielders behind, Bailey Buendia Ramsey maybe.

Archer is too raw to run a full season at this level, although he is a handful of energy and one for the future.  Ings is a classy player but needs better players around him.  Watkins is a player we need to cash in on before it's too late.  All of that said, I'd like to see what a proper manager and coach could do with them.  The shape is wrong to play with both Ings and Watkins.  We can all see it, have been saying it for around 12 months, why can't the present incumbent?  It's so obvious to me that the shape of the midfield is wrong.

I really don't get how Archer is being used so far.

Last season he was starting league cup games.

Now after a fantastic 12 months he dosen't even start v Bolton. Sending him on for injury time today was total p*** take.

If he isn't going to feature send him out on loan for next six months to keep him sharp otherwise he's just going to lose momentum bench warming.

It's not the biggest issue of many with Gerrard but just feels another odd call.

I like finishing strikers rather than starting strikers.

Objection - the tread starter is clearly biased and leading the witnesses.

Watkins with 2 pacey wide forwards. We only have 1 of them though. So Archer should be challenging for all 3 spots. Ings is bloody useless, because he can't run.

Not a big fan of Watkins but I'm not going to knock him or Ings when the tactics are so wrong. I think it can only be Critchley's influence that we now pump pointless balls into the box for our outnumbered strikers to watch being comfortably headed away. I don't remember the same tactics with Beale, he was more for going through the centre if memory serves.

Archer offers something different and deserves his chance, give him at least 45 minutes.

Sarr-Watkins-Bailey

      Buendia

would be reasonably decent pressing and direct frontline if we'd signed him last week.

People were getting caught up in thinking Sarr would've been a Gerrard signing, he'd have been a signing for next manager to work with given how little threat we currently carry on the break.

Watkins and Ings were dreadful today. The problem wasn't possession against West Ham, it was having that pair of no marks up front. I'd cheerfully never see either of them in a Villa shirt again.

So my verdict is....Archer. And buy somebody else.
