Yep the captain decision is one of the really big mistakes.

Just got rinsed on MOTD for constantly trying to play all his best players (example here Ings and Watkins) when it clearly does not work.

Micah Fucking Richards can see it.

It took till the 86th minute to see McGinn attempt to gee up his colleagues.

I can't believe he's captain. When Gerrard does get the tin tack, that'll be one of the reasons.

Absolutely.

Bizarre hill he has chosen to die on.

I don’t even think McGinn enjoys it yet Gerrard wanted “his captain”. The captaincy wasn’t broken at all and it appears he has put a player in a position he felt obligated to accept.

Martinez 6, Cash 7, Konsa 6, Chambers 6, Digne 4, Kamara 5, Luiz 5, McGinn 4, Coutinho 4, Ings 4, Watkins 4. Subs ...Bailey at least tried to do something, Buendia I'm sure was meant to go left wing when Bailey came but didn't

Ah it was a shambles. Any decent side would have annihilated West Ham in the first half given how poor they were. They changed shape, upped it all over the pitch and were the better team second half. Fortunate winner but Bowen last season would have scored off McGinns mistake. Terrible game in truth, reminiscent of the final days of Sherwood's reign (Stoke at home comes to mind).

Speaking of Tim, he was on with Shearer at half time. Slating Moyes tactics, saying he needed to change formation and put Villa under pressure until the crowd got at the Villa players. F*ck me, he was right!
A broken clock is right twice a day.Sherwood is a numpty.
Sherwood was a Premier League winning captain, something our current manager wasn’t. So there is that.

Watched about 20 mins of Forest v Spurs in the pub this afternoon. Forest were 1 down, were playing on the front foot, and created at least 3 big chances. They looked so much better than us, even though they messed up their chances.
Plus it was also noticeable how animated Conte was on the touchline, shouting instructions, waving and pointing at positions he wanted his players in.
Both teams showing qualities Steven Gerrards Aston Villa don’t.

I'm left disappointed leaving Villa Park again I don't know where the next win is coming from.

Considering we can't play Norwich, we've already played Everton, and we can't play ourselves, I don't think anyone knows when the next one is coming.

Has to be Southampton really. Pretty much our best 90 minute performance under Gerrard as we could've scored 8 that day.

If we can't beat them or get anything at Leicester than it's even worse than the mediocre form last 10 games of last season when we were getting 4 points off the same opponents.

And of course decent fixtures for a new manager to start with.

Smith used to get plenty of stick for his limitations when it came to changing in-game but Gerrard is worse.

That used to infuriate me with Dean but in fairness the bench options in those days tended to consist of Wesley, Davis and Trez so bit different to Gerrard having pretty much 100m worth of talent.

I just think the way we move the ball is amateurishly slow. We look, for the billionth time in the last decade and a half, like a team behind the times, like an analogue team in a digital world.

Very well put. The rest of the league seems to play with an intensity and pace that seems to be beyond us.

Tediously dull today.

Anyone know if we do double sessions under Gerrard?

We have very much look of team that trots out for training at 10am, does some light jogging and shooting drills and then everyone goes in at 12pm and maybe are home for lunch at 1.

Worrying lack of spirit aswell once we went 1 down and lost pretty much every 50/50 for a spell afterwards.

Gerrard spends an awful lot of time consulting with the other 'coaches' on the bench I've noticed. I like a coach/manager to be decisive on the sideline

they're all to blame. Fucking useless.

There is of course the possibility that there is a bad culture amongst the players at the club, which Gerrard has called out and the players don't like it.  As fans, we never really get to hear what is really going on, but I just go back to Beale's departure and things just not seeming right at the club.

Doesn't excuse some of the tactical decisions that have been made though.

There is one thing guaranteed in life.

If Villa are shit then the pathetic lightweight hosting of H&V will collapse because of the traffic.  Embarrassing considering how many cloud computing options are available

That's the first thing on your mind?
