Personally, home or away, if I walk into a boozer and it's rammed with fans singing, chucking beer about and five deep at the bar I'll turn around and go somewhere else.

we now park up Holborn Hill and have occasionally got an Uber to the Bartons, we used to park up near the Manor Tavern and also walked to the ground for a beer, but I have never been in the Villa Tavern....we might try it...what is it like in there ?

Liverpool City centre is absolutely tiny compared to Birmingham. The towns and cities of the North are villages compared to Brum.

Liverpool on a match day has hotels rammed with day trippers and glory merchants. I know, as I work there and walk up Castle Street with Irish and Norwegians absolutely everywhere. It's why they can charge £750 for a corporate match ticket on a Champions League game for what is my mates normal season ticket seat, in the equivalent of the lower Witton.

Now there's some shifting of the working class for you to actually moan about.

This. Lad was at Uni in Liverpool till last year, when we visited on a match day it was wall to wall Scandis.

Villa Tavern is a cracking pub. It's been covered by myself and others on here. It gets very busy in the main bar for a couple of hours before the game and an hour after. Good atmosphere. No food though except cobs.

Spoons at One Stop in Perry Barr is always packed with us on a matchday, decent atmosphere in there aswell from 1sh/6pm for midweek. No throwing pints into the air/letting off flares or whatever the kids are doing nowadays in theme bars to put on Insta.

I’ve been going to Villa Park since the mid 70s and have never been to the Bartons
I really should get round to paying a visit sometime

the beer is so so, the service can be awful but the Thai food is great.

Never been on a match day but can agree that the food is excellent.

Remember that time when I ordered the same meal as our Thai friend, who ordered a super spicy version, and when it came out I got the wrong dish. Ouch, ouch, ouch
