Southampton did have some good spells but I thought our defense played well when needed. They had very few clear cut chances (though they did have a couple).

Paging BE.

I also thought how disciplined we were to give them next to nothing in the way of free kicks anywhere near our box.

Overall a tremendous victory

Bizarrely I didn’t think we were that convincing and Southampton had long spells in that game where they were the better team, but when you have players like Phil…….

Southampton did have some good spells but I thought our defense played well when needed. They had very few clear cut chances (though they did have a couple).

Adams missed a big one at the backpost at a critical time. He missed another in the second half when Mings went AWOL. Great save from Martinez. Strange game really, we missed another four clear cut chances. Coutinho missed two sitters.

Ings would have scored a header from a corner too but he didn't call for it or Ramsey didn't hear him and Ramsey missed the target.

We need to do whatever it takes to keep Coutinho. As much as I loved watching Grealish play for us, he was never and will never be at that level - an absolute joy to behold.

I was thinking to myself much the same.  He’s a few seps above.

So many positives I don’t know where to start. It seems as though Gerrard’s talk with Ings and Watkins has worked wonders, their body language has improved and when Ings scored that is the most enthusiastic I’ve seen Ollie be about a team mates goal.

Credit to Chambers, I called him ‘limited’ in the Watford game but that pass to Coutinho was sensational. He’s starting to look like a shrewd signing now.

Special mention for Cash, who was being quite rightly called out for his terrible final ball a few months ago but credit to him he has worked hard on it and now looks a threat.

So, after Brighton game asked about views on Bissouma, yesterday was Ward-Prowse…personally I still only see a set piece specialist, he was anonymous in open play.

Who would have thought cutting the ball back from the bylines would be so effective? 3 out of 4 goals yesterday came from this play. Seriously this has been missing from our game for quite a while and if you're going to get the best from the likes of Ings and Watkins it needs to be an integral part of our tactics.

Certainly Ings you need to do that. He is another Bent. Put it in places that matter and he will score v weaker or comparable teams. V better teams limited tactic.

Yeah another one like our lot where the game can pass him by. McGinn is horrendously inconsistent but better more often than not. I reckon you could insert his (JWP) name instead of DL in terms of criticism if he played for us.

Agree, thought JWP looked very average. I thought the no.17 Armstrong was the best of their players

I thought Forster saved them from a huge defeat. Could easily have been 5-0 at HT

I honestly hadn’t noticed Ward-Prouse until he had the free kick in the 2nd half. He’s not the player we
need to improve further.

What do you guys do with the youths who stick a high vis on and charge you a £5 to park on the road? Normally we chuck them £5 be done with it, but were there early today before they'd rocked up, then started getting grief off one of them when we were trying to strap a little one in the car seat when we were leaving, so told the scrounging little rat to fuck off.

So probably get a big key mark down the car next time?
This doesn’t happen. No one charges £5 when people park on the road. Tell me which road and I will pass it on the the local councillor.

Vicarage Road, same couple of lads are always there.

That's been going on for decades - I can remember parking in the street the other side of the park back in the 90s and there being kids asking for money to "watch your car mate".

Yeah it has but back in the day they wasn't sticking on Hi-Viz jackets and charging a fiver.
“Looking after your car mister” is a great tradition. I did it myself in the 80’s with my friend but it was for 10p. So I now respect kids who still do it for a £1 but this hi viz jackets and £5 is totally unacceptable. I am going to follow it up.

A few people being imo a bit harsh on sjm, he's not playing the same role as under smith, and his workrate when we haven't got the ball is amazing.
